How do recent events affect the teams?

I realized today that I haven't heard a single offseason report about any members of the team since all of this hooplah started. The media has certainly been too busy to keep 24/7 tabs on the players, which has to be a welcome relief to them. Does the distraction hurt them, or are WE the only ones being distracted?
