How instant can Peyton Manning make a team?

Well the Chiefs are a playoff contender w/o Manning.
DIdn't they finish last in the worst division in the NFL last year?
Yep, and I highly doubt a broken Manning could make them a SB contender.
They finished 1 game behind the other 3 teams, and held the tie breaker. Basically had they not blown 1 of the number of games they blew they would have been in. Most notably they blocked winning FG attempt at the end of regulation against the Raiders in week 16. A block that cost them the division. A few other points of interest. Last year they played a 1st place schedule. This year they will play a last place schedule. They played the entire season with out their starting TE, and a pro bowl safety. They played 15 games without their All pro RB & lost their starting QB. They played 4 games with a guy that got cut in the CFL and UFL as their starting QB.

In short they were 1 play from repeating as division champs despite all the injuries, and now their schedule will get a lot easier. They basically add 3 players to their roster as new starters. A solid TE, a pro bowl safety and an ALL PRO RB. They have very good offensive skill players and have a solid D. They lost 4 games by 1 score or less playing what was tied for the 3rd toughest schedule in 2011.

I think very clearly a QB with the skills the Payton has, seeing that he is healthy, can easily take a team that is playoff caliber and make them a real threat to go further.

To be fair the whole AFC West has been a joke of a division for a while now. Really it's time to get rid of divisions and just have the best 6 teams in each conference make the playoffs. an 8-8 team should in no way be hosting a playoff game against a 12-3 team.

Since Manning is going to be let go let the bidding war start. I know Manning is a great qb but can he make a team like the Chiefs, Dolphins, Redskins playoff teams next year? I don't know how good the Colts would have been this year if had played. They had problems other than qb. The teams that will want him aren't a good qb away from making the playoffs. I think maybe barely over .500 his first year and playoffs next.
The Dolphins would make the playoffs. KC would have a good chance. Redskins doubtful. 49'ers yes, but I don't think Harbaugh would do that to his QB. Arizona would have a good chance too.

I dont have a problem with division champs gettin in the playoffs, but the real big problem is division champs hosting automatic home playoff games against wildcard team. The Saints going to Seattle 2 years ago, and the Steelers to Denver last year is a joke. When it comes to home field, the best overall record should get the nod.

Read an article in the Denver Post about how Denver would like to pick him up. They're convinced it won't happen. Not because of Tebow, but because John Fox's offense is so run-oriented that it wouldn't suit Manning's style at all. Great. So the 'style' is watch your QB hand off, run a couple of times, and hope you either bore the opponent to death or they keep shooting themselves in the foot to let you win. Great game plan Denver.

But then it wouldn't be worth to win your division unless guaranteed home field advantage. Pretty much rendering a division winner useless if they have a horrible record.

Well Fox made it a run oriented offense to suit Tebow. if they had to rely on Tebow's passing all game then they wouldn't have won as much.

Good point...but I don't remember Carolina passing that much under him either. I could be wrong though...never followed them other than to see what Minter did once in a while.
