Only a "small" issue that is the entire integrity of the game. If people can bet on their own teams, it's WWE. He should probably just ignore college football until August. This is a huge earthquake issue and is not going away. Red Raider fans have been mostly whataboutism embarrassments online.

All this for a dude who threw for 69 yards/2.8 AVG/0 TD/1 INT against Nebraska.

Is anybody in the NFL even willing to take a chance on him at this point? He might be even more radioactive than Shedeur. It wouldn't surprise me if some within the NFL try to get him blocked there, too.

It probably just came down to a financial decision, that he was going to end up costing them (read: Cody Campbell) more than he was worth. Their own conference filed a lawsuit against them. Michigan was following us and Georgia in cancelling games against them (apparently they weren't planning to 'let it go or getting some help'), and they probably wouldn't have been the last.

Ironically, since he's 'eligible' to play in college via the injunction, it sounds like he'll have to petition the NFL for an exception to be even be eligible for the supplemental draft. Potentially they could deny it.

"For the first 13 years, from 1977 to 1990, only players who either graduated or exhausted their eligibility were eligible to participate in the Supplemental Draft. However, since 1993, the NFL has allowed players who faced other adversity, including disciplinary reasons, to petition the league for Supplemental Draft entry as well."


Edit: I guess he's withdrawing his lawsuit, which in turn ends the injunction and returns him to ineligible status. But I think he'll still have to win a petition.

Pretty sure that if Sorsby was known to gamble before the portal.....

Tech would have skipped on him and tried to get Sam Leavitt (ASU to LSU), Mestemaker (UNT to Okie State), Byrum Brown (USF to Auburn), DJ Lagway (Florida to Baylor) or just about anyone instead. Even Dylan Raiola would have received a courtship.

Problem was Sorsby and his gambling. He really screwed Tech OR wherever he would have transferred to before the betting addiction / scandal came about.

Tech's backup is still recovering from an ACL until conference play begins and they will have to insert a tomato can / 3rd stringer to start the year. Sorsby - talking about pulling the rug out from a team willing to court you and pay you. Not Tech's fault IMHO

I hope others can realize and understand the situation that Nebraska is now in ..... I mean Tech.

It's maybe not Tech's fault that they were dealt a crap hand.

But the fact that they tried to sweep it all under the rug and play him anyway is 100% their fault.

From that moment on, they deserved every single bit of the fallout from their actions.

I doubt it. I think Sorsby probably ends up in the CFL having to prove himself.

The gambling stuff is unique and it'll be interesting to see if NFL teams believe he has a handle on it. If they do, I don't think there's much of a PR problem. He will have actually served a punishment by forfeiting hid last year of college and it's amazing how quickly they'll sweep college issues under the rug if the dude can play in the NFL.

I also agree the "he's a 1st round talent!" stuff is crazy and I don't think he is, but he's good. Maiava is going to be a high pick and we held him to a 39% completion, 135 yards, no TDs and a pick. ~95 yards if you take out a flea flicker. Butler had major problems, but he sure knew what to do against guys like Lincoln Riley and Scott Satterfield.

Sorsby made a huge mistake and betting those small amounts has cost him in a big way. He shoulda known better is paying the price.

That said, ya gotta love the righteous NCAA and other institutions who with a wink and nod make money off gambling sites by selling data to help generate live bets, individual institutions have licensing agreements with the gambling sites it wants it players to have nothing to do with regarding college sports. The revenue in sports has grown tremendously from the interest gambling brings through increased eyeballs on the tv.

Sorsby needs to be suspended and that line in the sand can’t be crossed over, but the asshats at the ncaa and the Presidents at the schools making all the fuss need to take a look in the mirror and re-evaluate why they cuddle up to gambling sites all the while having a holier than though attitude all for some extra money into the school coffers.

Tech met with Sorsby on Sunday to reaffirm his status, then gave him the boot on Monday.

In fact, it was Texas attorney general Ken Paxton's letter last week that, oddly enough, paved the way for the school's filing Monday, according to legal experts who spoke to Yahoo Sports. Paxton's letter threatened legal action against the Big 12 if it were to sanction Texas Tech.

It opened a lane for the Big 12's suit. The league's filing on Monday asked a federal judge to bar Paxton's office from preventing the conference from exercising its right under the bylaws to sanction Tech. The conference sought no damages in the filing and did not challenge a state court ruling that deemed Sorsby eligible, but instead requested a judge to permit it to take action in light of Paxton's legal threats — a lawsuit that many within the legal community expected the Big 12 to win.

"In 40 years as a lawyer, I've never seen such a devastating legal filing come out of left field," said Tom Mars, a noted attorney in recent college sports cases, most of them against the NCAA, conferences and schools. "It was as creative as anything I've ever seen."
