Damnit, that was fast

@jimcallisMLB: 2nd-rder Monte Harrison, @Brewers agree to terms for $1.8 mil. Pick value = $1,100,300. Missouri HS OF, tremendous athlete. @MLBDraft

I'm ready for the coaches to quit recruiting great baseball players to play football. I understand why he would sign and certainly am not holding it against him. Having String commit takes away some of the sting but I was still hoping to see them both on the field at some point.

No one should be surprised by this. No one.

At least he didnt wait till the last day

Good luck to him. I can't blame him I would have done the same thing.

At least he made them pay! Good Luck Monte!

Damn.

Waste of elite athleticism to play baseball. Can't blame the kid though. Good luck Monte. Represent the show me state.

@swmckewonOWH: The first person Monte Harrison called after signing with the #Brewers was Bo Pelini. Pelini's reaction: "Go do what you love." #Huskers

I hope he kills it in the bigs! Just not with the Brewers though..

Why? Sooner or later we will get one. No loss in trying. I would Recruit like they won't come and if they do great

I agree. Once every four years is not that big of a deal. Especially when we finally land one.

Congratulations, Monte. That's a nice pile of cash.

Good for him!!! He got paid, and in baseball guaranteed contracts are such a great benefit. He could be close to the majors in 3-4 years, and could be making serious cash in 6-7 years.

As frustrating as it was to lose Bubba Starling a couple years ago I won't be terribly surprised to see him on the NU campus in 2016. In his 3rd year in the system he's only batting .190 in high A ball after a 15 game hitting streak.

I have no problem recruiting guys like this to positions such as receiver where we should have several in a class. If he doesn't come then that scholarship will be used and the depth at the position isn't hit too bad. I have no desire to recruit a QB in this situation and hang the future of the position on a guy who is probably not going to come here.

In my book there is a big difference between the Harrison situation and the Bubba Starling, and even more so, the Carl Crawford situations.

Crawford hurt because he was the QB of the future for NU and Solich. Nothing against Lord he played as well as he could, but he was a project coming into the system and wasn't what was needed at the time. Jamal Lord would have bee a great long striding RB like a Chris Brown at Colorado or Eric Dickerson. Not saying he was as talented as either, just saying that style of back.
