Huskers end season unranked in AP, coaches polls

All-Conference
29th in AP.

30th in Coaches.

Behind LSU in both polls. Really? I know they beat Georgia Tech soundly, but they did nothing else all year. Was that simply a SEC > Big 12 vote?

I don't agree either.... BUT playing devil's advocate... we didn't beat a ranked team all year.

Huskers end season unranked in AP, coaches polls
By BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star

Friday, Jan 09, 2009 - 02:09:24 am CST

Nebraska fell short of the national rankings when the final football polls were released around the midnight hour.

The Huskers received 64 points in The Associated Press poll (the equivalent of a ranking of 29th) and 62 points in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll (a ranking of 30th).

After a 26-21 Gator Bowl win over Clemson, it was wondered if the Huskers (9-4) might find their way into the rankings for the first time since the first week of October last year.

Nebraska hasn’t finished a year ranked since after the 2005 season when an Alamo Bowl victory over Michigan vaulted NU to 24th in both polls.

The AP rankings:

1. Florida (48) 13-1 1,606 points

2. Utah (16) 13-0 1,519

3. USC (1) 12-1 1,481

I don't mind this...we can go into next season flying under the radar, and it will motivate some of our players and coaches. :horns2

Not that surprising. To crack the top 25 at the end of the season we needed to beat a marquee opponent. We did not. We beat everyone that we "should" beat, but didn't have a signature win over a ranked opponent.

If and when we beat VTech next fall, all will be well.

I'd like to see who some of the other 4-loss teams played.

All of our losses were against teams rated in the final top 20. I doubt some of the other teams there did it that hard.

yah, i saw this this morning on yahoo sports. kinda stinks but like the other guy said it'll give our players and coaches a lot more motivation. Is it August yet?

We'll be ranked when we deserve to be ranked.

But I look for NU to be ranked in the Top 25 when the worthless pre-season polls are released.

One of the only reasons I can see Iowa at #20 is because they upset Penn State.
no doubt a big win, but they struggled badly the first of the year. I thought at least to have NU at 24 and Iowa at 25 or vice versa, both teams really turned it on the end of the year, and luck would have it both got invites to new years bowls when we probably should not have.

I would'nt be upset if I did'nt think NU would destroy IOWA in a head to head matchup. But as has become painfully obvious, that's not the way college football does buisness.

So hears to another sham of a bowl season. GO PLAYOFFS!!!
