Nebraska will open men’s basketball practice next week with two of the top seven players in its expected early rotation sidelined by injury.
Freshman forward Isaiah Roby and junior guard Anton Gill remain “on the shelf’’ from normal basketball activity because of chronic pain issues, NU coach Tim Miles said Monday.
The 6-foot-8, 214-pound Roby, from Dixon, Illinois, has been sidelined since mid-July with a “stress reaction’’ in his pelvis. MRI testing shows improvement, Miles said.
Gill, a 6-3, 195-pound transfer from Louisville, has been slowed by chronic knee tendinitis for months, which led to a halt to basketball activities in late August. He has undergone a medical procedure to counter the pain.
“I hope we can ease those guys into practice the second or third week after we get going,’’ Miles said. “That would give them about a month before we play a game.’’
