Huskers take the next step

Four-Star Recruit
After today, The Huskers have taken another step to being a Top 10 program. The Huskers are not back yet, but are moving that way to being a Top 10 program. The goal of the season was to win the Big 12 North and play in the Championship game. My prediction for the Huskers record was to lose to USC and Texas, win all the other games, and beat Texas in the championship game and go 10-2. If the Huskers play like they have played all year, the Huskers should win the rest of their games. The Huskers were the only team in America to play the 2 teams that played for the National Championship last year. Against USC, the Huskers had the right game plan but couldn't execute it. Against Texas, the Huskers should have won the game. Losing to #3 USC by 18 and #5 Texas by 2, just shows that the Huskers are taking the next steps to being a Top 10 program. The Husker have won every game they should have won and played good to excellent against USC and Texas. The Huskers still need 1-2 more recruiting classes to really show America the Huskers are really back. Playmakers are starting to really look at Nebraksa. The down fall to the program was recruiting. Alot of programs just had better talent. Coach Callahan is not as bad as fans make him out to be. Yes, he can be alot better, but he is growing with the program. From his first season to right now his third, Callahan has gotten better just as has the Football players have become better. The goal of the season was to win the Big 12 North and it really looks like the Huskers are the #2 team in the whole Big 12. Today hurts but, this football has shown America THE HUSKERS ARE COMING!!!!!!!

I am new to this board and would like to contribute to the discussion. I'm a LONG time Husker fans. I always temper any comments with the knowledge that we are generally speaking about young kids and I certainly couldn't do what they do, but here is what I see.

I agree that the Huskers are moving forward, but are not there yet. Saturday showed that.

On Offense, there was not much in the way of sustained drives. The run game was totally stymeid in the first half. O-Line, not at all dominating. Pass blocking is very soft and run blocking against aggressive defense seems confused. Is this coaching or talent or combination?

On the up side, the running back committee is delivering, despite less than optmal blocking. Taylor is a solid quarterback that had a mediocre day and looked more like the rattled freshman than the grizzled veteran. That is probably more due to the team's inability to get the run going.

The defense played an EXCELLENT first half but got handed their lunch in the second. I think that was coaching. However, Pass Defense weak on the corners - I've never seen corner back so willing to commit to a head fake. Any opponent who has spent ten minutes reviewing film can see the tendancy to backpeddle, and rather than stay square, the CB crosses legs and thus over commit, allowing a receiver to fake an out and go up. :bonez

I also see very questionable tackling. The Husker are giving up a lot of yards after contact. There certainly are a LOT of huge hits, but not much wrapping up. Most tacklings are made it seems at and above the waist, especially in the secondary. Not so much arm tackling as it is tackling too high. Hence, the opponent gets a few more yards on each down.

Anyway those are my initial thoughts. Lots of potential but more development needed.

Heaven is trimmed in Scarlet and Cream!!!!!
