If we win: Fiesta Bowl opponent

JTrain

All-Conference
We call all speculate until we're blue in the face, but I'm curious if anyone has any actual information from the powers that be regarding who the Fiesta would want if Nebraska wins the Big 12. I would love to face Iowa, but I doubt the national appeal of that match-up would be very high.

All of the sports sites that do bowl projections only do them assuming Texas will win. This is frustrating, and I wish they did alternate projections based on differing outcomes.

JTrain from what I've heard it sounds like it'll be Iowa or Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl but more than likely it'll be Iowa because they beat Penn State in the regular season. I've also heard that Iowa will be in the Fiesta from several Suckeye aka Hawkeye fans

There's no actual information to be had. The bowls aren't going to commit to someone while there are games left to be played that may force them into something else, because they don't want to piss off fans of the team they didn't say was their first choice. If Texas loses, we don't even know if it's going to be Cincy or TCU or even the SEC loser in the championship game, and that affects the other selections.

If we win, the selection order after the automatic tie ins of the Rose Bowl, Nebraska to the Fiesta, and the ACC champ to the Orange is going to be Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Sugar. The Sugar will take the SEC loser unless they stay #2. Bank on it. The key is who the Orange will take to face the ACC champ. Sounds like they want TCU, but if they aren't available, maybe they take the Pitt/Cincy winner, or a Big 10 team. Pitt's a lot less attractive now with 2 losses. Then I'd guess the Fiesta takes a Big 10 team if available, or Boise St. The Sugar gets whoever is left. If it's Boise State, they could even look at another at-large team like VaTech or Cincinnati if they lose to Pitt.

With all that uncertainty, you should be able to see that there's no "actual information" available. I suspect the bowl guys have already done some talking and probably know what they are doing in most cases, but do they even have them all covered?

And what would you do with this information if you had it?

Bathe in it.

I think TCU probably gets passed by Cincy if they beat Pitt. It looks likely judging by how close the standings currently are. So if Nebraska wins, Cincy plays SEC champ in the title game. No I do not think there will be an SEC rematch.

- Sugar gets first pick and takes SEC runner-up.

- Orange gets second pick and takes Texas to face ACC champ

- Fiesta gets third pick and takes TCU

- Sugar gets last pick and takes Iowa, Penn St. or Boise.

The more complicated scenario is if TCU doesn't get passed by Cincy. A lot of people seem to think they won't. Then the Fiesta won't take Cincy to play us because Cincy doesn't travel worth a crap. The Fiesta then would choose between Iowa, Penn St. and Boise. I'm curious as to who they would take out of those three.

DOH! I was trying to do some real work at the same time and completely left out Texas in the Orange, which is pretty much a given, from what I hear. Your scenarios are probably right, though I don't know about the Fiesta taking TCU. If Texas wins, the order is Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, Fiesta, Sugar, and I'm not seeing any projections about the Fiesta taking TCU in that case.

Between Iowa, Penn St and Boise State, my guess is that the Fiesta wants Iowa. But if they leak that, there will be more pressure on them to take Boise, so they'll stay quiet until decision time. Plus they may get both if Texas wins, so they don't want to piss off one team by calling them a second choice.

All my scenarios are based on Nebraska winning. If Nebraska loses, the scenarios are pretty simple.

I understand. But we learn something from the Texas winning scenarios projections that everyone has, which is that the Fiesta won't take TCU as the Big 12 replacement when they have a chance. So they probably wouldn't take them in the scenario where Texas loses and Cincinnati passes TCU for #2.

Good point. I hadn't considered that. Maybe the Fiesta takes PSU or Iowa or Boise and leaves TCU for the Sugar.

I've heard it would be either Boise or Iowa.

Then I read another article this week saying that Boise should root for UT to beat NU or else they'll lose their spot in the Fiesta against Iowa. :dunno

Have to wait until Sunday.

If we win: Fiesta Bowl opponent

Does anyone have any legitimate insight?

Pretty sure the Insight Bowl is in Sun Devil Stadium..The Fiesta is across town in Glendale. :sarcasm

Of the teams mentioned, I'd really hate to play Iowa..It'd be a tough sell to our players to take them seriously...And I'd bet Cincy or TCU would travel well this season.

I don't want to see the Skers play against Iowa. Or Penn State.

I'd rather see a Holiday Bowl vs. a Pac 10 team, loss to Texas be damned. The Big 10 is a joke. It's the only scenario worse than playing a non-BCS team like Boise or TCU. Lose, and you're a laughing stock. Win, and it's no big deal. f#*k the Big 10. At least Boise and TCU are undefeated.

Actually I would love to see the Huskers shut up the Iowa fans. Doesn't get too much better than that IMO.

I'm with you on that boat Caveman. I live in Western Iowa, and the Iowa fans this year have been unbearable. I cannot believe they snaked their way to so many wins in the awful big 11, but if they actually played us, I do think they'd get straight up smacked, and it would be a perfect way to end my personal college football season.
