So what if we just got rid of Coagrove? Sure, Pederson was el dousche. Callahan never seemed to "fit" Nebraska. Still, is it debatable that this program still may have been fairly successful if Cosgrove had just been thrown out on his a$$?
Nah, I don't think so. Despite revisionist history, we had pretty damn fine defensive unites in 2005 and 2006. Championship-caliber, even. It doesn't matter which individual part or coach you would have tried to get rid of, the program was fractured from the foundation and something else would have gone wrong. We could have been conference champions in 2006, as well as beat a Top 10 team in a bowl game, but Callahan pissed all that down his leg when our defense played lights out in both games.
