I'm Convinced It's Still ATTITUDE

Walk-on
I may just have on my rose colored glasses, but I think the players have exactly what it takes but they just dont seem like they want it at all. I don't even think it's the coaches are entirely to blame. I dont remember the qoute exactly, but I remember Z. Taylor saying, "this is big 12 football, if you need motivation, you shouldnt be playing." I thought last season was pretty good. Those players looked hungry for wins. They had the same coaches who had the same composure on the sidelines as this year. I think it's up to the players to fire each other up.

The team seems like a huge bonfire loaded with gasoline but just hasnt been lit yet. Just my opinion. Get that fire lit and the plays will be executed. We can't exactly insult the play-calling when the team barely and rarely executes them. So how do we light that fire? It shouldn't be a worry, but apparently it is.

First off, I say, take more risks. I think thats my ONLY gripe with Callahan. He seems unwilling to take risks. Of course, they'd have to be in viable situations, but take some. Throw in a trick play. Throw in a reverse, some latterals, sneak ganz in for another option run. Do something more than a 3 man rush on D! Jesus, even the commentators on Saturday were saying the 3 man rush over and over just wasnt working. They showed blitz all night and I knew they wouldnt do it, so did MU. Our secondary has improved so give them a chance and dont feed Octavien breakfast on saturday, and send him in hungry. Fire them up.

I may just be an armchair coach, or qb, but I'm convinced we're missing a winning attitude. This season has been crazy. The college landscape has changed and teams are evening out. The one who absolutely wants it most seems to win. Just look at all the small unranked teams upsetting the giants.

And that is the coaches fault. The attitude of a team stems form the attitude of the leaders. Look around any organization, company or team.

Again I somewhat agree. The coaches play a part. But if you're a competitor.... an athelete... you should have that "drive" already. The coaches teach you to use that drive and hone your skills.

To be fair, coaches can also quash that drive pretty easily.

I hear ya... To me, taking a risk would be to work (especially) Niles Paul, and possibly Meno Holt, & even Wil Henry into the games. Scratch out the 3 to 5 yard check downs as an option. Throw the ball down field to these talented players. Give Castille more chances, more opportunities. He's the guy you want running between the tackles any way. Loosen up some of that control. Give the players a chance to make a play. Have some guts, show some faith in your younger players. Let 'em take a shot over and over.

BTW - I'm not much into the trick plays. Even when they work, it's still a trick, a gimmick. But I'm all for taking the risk.
