Incoming recruits numbers?

I was wondering if anyone knew or knows when the incoming recruits get numbers? Like Maurice Purify, I was talking to him and he said he doesnt know his number yet, and I looked on huskers.com and almost all the numbers are taken that a WR could use, only some single digit numbers? When do they let these guys know their numbers and how many can they double up?

 
I bet he ends up with like 84(Mulkey's number) or #9. I just noticed that David Harvey is now listed at #80. I thought he was like #35 last year.

I believe at the beginning of fall camp they are given a choice of whats left.

I think you can double up on any number once. so 1-99 on offense and 1-99 on defense.

It was worse when we had a "huge" walkon program....i remember when I was a kid asking my dad:

"hey why is that guys number 67a"

response

"oh he wont be playing for three years, they havent finished building him."
