Interesting. Had not heard this before . . .

Five-Star Recruit
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN: It’s well-documented that Jeremy Maclin gave Oklahoma a verbal commitment before he became a Missouri Tiger. But Nebraska was in the running, too.

"At the time, I was really considering them," Maclin said yesterday.

Only there was a hang-up. Maclin said Nebraska’s former coaching staff was only interested on the condition that he join the Huskers as a grayshirt, meaning he could have enrolled part-time in 2006 but wouldn’t go on scholarship until 2007.

"That wasn’t something I wanted to do," he said. "Nothing to downgrade their program, but Missouri was just a better place for me."

Nebraska’s 2006 recruiting class had already included receivers Maurice Purify, Will Henry and Menelik Holt - a trio that’s combined for 103 receptions, all but 12 belonging to Purify, who completed his eligibility last season.

Maclin said Nebraska’s coaches eventually offered him a chance to enroll in the summer like a regular recruit, but by then he’d lost interest.

Meanwhile, in 18 career games, he’s caught 106 passes and earned consensus All-American honors last season - something a Nebraska receiver hasn’t done since Irving Fryar in 1983.

Salt in the wound.

I honestly didn't mean it that way, but I can understand. I'm a true believer that almost all things in life run in cycles. NU has been in a down cycle, but it won't last forever.
I know you didn't. Him saying that he may have ended up here had he been recruited harder is salt in the wound. Meanwhile, we have Will Henry getting the bench nice and toasty. Maclin is a special player and he would have been a killer pick up, but I doubt he would have been utilized as much as he has at MU. They have creative ways of getting him involved.

The safe way to go for these guys, is to just shut up when it comes to other schools that have recruited them. Otherwise it is just bulletin material, used to inspire everyone on that team to aim for you. Think life would be easier if he just flew under the radar, but I guess some people have to give themselves a reason to have to play harder.

As with any recruit, you just don't know what they can do until they compete at this level. Unfortunatly for us we have found that most of our highly touted ones are a bust, but cream always rises to the top. I would not put too much into the what ifs of some recruits, they might not have fit into the past or present system.

I don't think he said anything that is bulletin board material. He wasn't disrespectul to Nebraska at all.

Recruiting is always what if....what if Emmitt Smith had come here, what about Carl Crawford, etc...

Sometimes you miss out, and sometimes you get the gem that everyone else looked over.

yep Missouri must have an eye for talent......they picked Maclin and Daniels........someone knows how to read these kids at MU.
