Iowa Game Preview

I feel like any success or failure after the MN game was gonna be par for the course. We got f’ing whipped and out coached so bad in that game…I was kinda like “well, we are who we are.”

So Iowa won’t be my barometer. Last game in bad weather w a back up freshman QB. MN and PSU kinda told me who we are.

Now, if we can somehow pull this off, I’ll be happy as a shotgun shooting a Hawkeye. But if we lose, I would just shrug my shoulders and clap, as the winners go by.

While I agree, every opportunity to punch above your weight and for the staff to actually outcoach another staff is a test. The thing that bothers me the most is how we still can only beat those with inferior talent. Our 4 conference wins are against teams with 0, 1, 3 and 4 B1G wins respectively this season, NW being the best. Lose against Iowa and it's 3 straight losing seasons in conference for Rhule.

Someday I want to actually beat someone we shouldn't again. This year would feel a lot different had we beaten Michigan or USC.

Past two weeks I was optimistic. We lost. This week, I’m switching it up. Iowa kicks to crap out of us. They run at will and embarrass us worse than PSU…. Dana calls the worst game of his career and Butler goes all in trying to deny them increasing their passing TD percentage above 23% (23% of Iowa’s TDs through the air). Figured they’ll know we know they’ll run so Butler abandons run D knowing that they know we know so they’ll pass to avoid falling into his run stopping trap. Which is exactly now falling into his pass stopping defensive trap. In a single word? Check mate😂

And with that being said.....

Enter Rhule…we will make sure Wetjen gets his record because our mantra over the past two decades is allowing opponents to set records. We are extremely good at that. Never disappoint. If an opponent is down, we find a way to lift them up. We are very charitable that way.
I think Ekler will tell Archie to not punt to him, the question is can he execute or do a couple go offline and become returnable.

Seeing this written down is the truth. Our MO for way too long. And hasn't really stopped this season either. One score wins are better, but unsure if I can say we beat the teams we should. Minnie this year comes to mind. But for me, the bold hits home. We find a way to play up to or down to our competition. Never beating those we play "up to", but have sure lost to ones we played "down to" throughout the years. Hoping this will change.

But like a lot are saying, just show up and win. Tired of the awesome speeches and pressers. Gotta start winning.
