I totally agree CM. Darlington is not going to play QB. No coach wants to take the chance on that is my guess. POB should have been practicing and playing the whole year. I really do not care about Redhirts. You sometimes need bodies. The kid signed to play here and when needed. He was needed today, and most likely several other times.

I am a fan of Riley, but you have to have the manpower to play the game. We did not today. When Tommy is not playing well it seems to affect the team. That should have been transitioned through the year I think.

We should have had a viable alternative all year. That is what good teams do. They plan ahead, but not always two years ahead. You do what you have to do to be as competitive as you can. I think Coach Riley failed on that.

As to talent, it was apparent today that we were no where near competitive on the lines. Iowa did what they wanted and when they wanted. Our kids looked clumsy, out of shape, tired and uninspired.

We have a tremendous weapon in Westerkamp. Why he is on the sideline at anytime is beyond me. they have to account for him it would seem.

I do not want to see Coach Riley fired, for three reasons. I like him a lot. I really could not stand the past head coach from day one, and we need to see if they can do things differently with a true passing QB. As to the qualifications of assistant coaches, I know that loyalty is a factor in coaching, so I doubt many will leave.

I agreed with most of your post but this. It really doesn't matter how nice Riley is, if he can't do better than the last 3 guys, his stay should be short. Many of the assistants should be even shorter. The last 2 years our schedule has been as easy as he will get. I wouldn't be shocked to see some more 5 or 6 loss seasons in the next few years.
Who cares how much you hated the last guy? I'm not sure why some of you are obsessed with that guy. If the new guy can't get it done, we can't let this program slip any further back.

The more this staff wants to throw first, throw often, the more we will see results like this. We saw it this year, we saw it last, and we saw it from 04 through 07 when we were supposed to be uber talented.

The nice guy Riley act is getting old for a reason to want to keep him. I want to keep Riley because he wins, but if he can't do that and gets blown out twice a year then the guy is gonna have to go eventually. Especially if he's unwilling to turnover coordinators.

I don't mind Langs as a guy. He seems like a good guy in most pressers and thoughtful.

But, it's so clear that he wants to throw over anything else. Just because you're down 17 at half shouldn't mean you abandon the run "because it became that type of game."

If throwing the ball like we do led to more points, we should do it from down #1. Not just because we are down 20.

So, if you're down 20, stick with what scores you points. Don't go into panic mode. Especially when you aren't even going up tempo.

Bo was a good assistant so it was easy for him to take over the special teams - not so good as a HC.

Riley has a goal of being a good HC - knows how to let his assistants do their job. If they fail he has shown that he can pull the plug at the right time.

I don't think any..... After their dismal offense in 2011 he did take over play calling form Langs.....but he kept his job.....

Sam McKewon said it on this weeks podcast. Riley and co gambled by red-shirting so many guys this year that could have played and added depth, in hopes to squeak by. In hindsight, that was a bad idea.

Man I hope Riley figures out this roster management thing in his 42nd year of coaching....

Langs is the one who insists on running right up the middle 80% of the time so.....

Westerkamp is a small receiver. Sometimes he gets dinged up and needs to take a play or two off.
