Is Nebraska Behind the Ball in Recruiting?

Does anyone else ever sometimes feel like we are one year behind in our focus for recruiting each year? For example, in 2007 we lost our entire D-line, and the 2007 recruiting class has seven D-linemen in it. The 2006 class had five.

This year we will lose a lot of our Linebackers, and it looks like the coaches are going after a lot of 'backers this year. In 2007 we took 2 linebackers.

What do you all think, should the coaches try to get one year further ahead? It certainly looks like they are trying to this year with the O-linemen they are bringing in. Just wondering if you all ever thought about this. :thumbs

Well we had one more Linebacker commit last year that decommited too close to signing day to get another one... so that would have been three, followed by the recruits this year. Which would have been enough.

Also in 2005 we had a few OL commits that for one reason or another just didn't pan out. ie. Picou is no longer on the team, Hickman was a delayed commitment and didn't come till 2006 and Roark switched to Defense. We did get Slauson that year though and along with the depth we have and the class we have coming in we should be fine. Expecially if Cruz Barrett, Victory Haines. Brock Pasteur and DJ Jones start playing up to their potential.

I really like these two commitments, hopefully we can keep pulling them in. Also it looks like they are upgrading speed in the linebackers.

I still think we need a big time tight end, if we don't get one this year I will be mad we didn't give Biere a shot, but I do believe we have a pretty good chance at Dion Jordan, other than him it looks like we will have another year with no breakout tight end, we need to start racking up recuirts once the season starts, not to many guys commit in the summer. Plus we need to offer vondre the first date we can because he is going to be a dominant recuirt in 09

What about Hetzer? He still may commit.

I think it has a lot to do with guys just dont want to come as badly unless they know they will come in and start as Freshmen... unless you get a continued success, much like USC and Texas the last couple of years then you can get the guys to trust that coming to your school is best for them.

We need to just prove that year in and out that we will be contending for NCs and Coference Championships then guys will be willing to sit the in the a little longer.

man, i was just looking at texas and okalahoma recuirting class, I know they are top of the line for recuirting but I wish we could come at least closer to them, espically when it is only this far into the recuirting season

Note the difference between pre-2004 and post-2004 (and I think Rivals seriously underranked our 2006 class). We’ve made a world of progress in our recruiting efforts.
