Is Nebraska considered Yankee?

I live in Texas but I've always loved the Huskers. My town in Texas is closer to Lincoln - as the crow flies - than it is to College Station or Austin. And Nebraska just looks a heck of a lot more like where I live - flat and windy.

Now, me and my brother got into an argument. he's a Texas Tech grad, and he said Nebraska's a bunch of yankees. I'm like do what? A "yankee" is someone from the northeast, is it not? He said "no way - you go to Nebraska and I'll guarantee you those people are different - they're yankees. I asked him what that meant and he said they are "more blunt, rude, etc."

So...is this true? Is Nebraska yankee country? How do Nebraskans see the situation? :hellloooo

 
Nebraska is a lot like rural texas. The people are the same they just talk different. Texans can move up here and fit right in, I know of about 6 or 7 families either here or around North Platte that are originally from texas and they fit right in, so I don't think the rude blunt part works so no. We are not yankees, maybe omaha, omaha is a bunch of yankees......

 
Nebraska is very down to earth. The only areas where you won't see that will be Omaha and Lincoln, because they are the major cities. When people move here, they are attracted towards the city so it is very diverse there. However, people don't move to rural Nebraska that often to some of the smaller towns, which is really where you get a feel for "true" Nebraska and just how down to earth everyone is.

 
we are different, we aren't arrogant jack asses who think the world revolves around them...and them complain when something THEY built screws them.

When I lived in Austin, almost everyone called me a "dam yankee".

But I never even liked baseball.

No, yankees are parts of Maryland, all of Pennsylvania & north. Ya'll are midwesterners. Texans are not southerners, and neither are Floridians.

The south is comprised of SC, NC, GA, Bama, Miss, LA, Tenn, Virginia, WV, Kentucky.

The north (yankees) are parts of Maryland, Penn, NY, NJ, RI, Delaware, NH, Vermont, Maine, Conn, & Florida (there are more yankees there than ever)

I didn't realize being a Yankee was bad thing now, after all we are the asskickers in this country. :box

Though I was born and raised out in the mid-west, I'd have to consider myself a Yankee. I know my brother does, he lives in Concord NC.

Nebraska can be considered yankee in some aspects. The times I've been to Lincoln I have seen entirely too many gel-head, wannabe Jersey guys for my liking. At the same time though, you have good country people (like my relatives) who could be mistaken for Southern minus the accent.

 
First we are Nebraskans, and Husker Nation.

Next we are citizens of the United States of America.

And finally we are people of the Earth.

We aren't bulnt and we aren't rude. If you think I'm not being truthful page through this board and read what fans from other schools think of us once they have been to Lincoln and attended a Husker game.

Bandwagon jumper? Hell I now live in the northeast. And as far as the women, while it's true southern women in general have a more cordial attitude. By no means do you have a monopoly on babes.
