Is This “Coaching To Win”?

Run on first down. Run on second down. Pass on third and long. Repeat. No vertical passing game to speak of. No Glenn. Big cushions by the cornerbacks. Limited blitzing. Was this coaching to win?
Well, yeah, it was – considering the circumstances…
If we learned one thing abut the USC game, it is that our talent is still not where it needs to be. It’s getting there, but as much as it pains us, we have to face facts. If you can come to terms with that, then the game plan becomes understandable – and was our best chance to win.
It’s axiomatic in sports – if you are outmanned you try to shorten the game, eliminate turnovers and mistakes, put the game in the hands of your defense, and try to give yourself a chance to win in the fourth quarter by keeping the game close.
Given all that, let’s break down the game plan.
