It's an interesting time to be a Cornhusker football fan

In 2010 we will play our final season as Big 12 members which also coincides with the 40th anniversary of our very first National football title.

In 2011 we will play in our first season as Big Ten members which also coincides with the 40th anniversary of our 2nd National football title.

These are interesting times, indeed. ;)

That is interesting, never thought about it before but hey we might be celebrating the anniversary with a new title ;)

During the Solich and even more during the Callahan years

I lost that feeling of excitement I felt no matter who it was that we played.

It's real nice now to have that excitement again!

I still had that feeling during the Solich era; I remember listening to the Notre Dame game on the radio during a car trip and hanging on every play. During the Callahan era, I was just hoping not to be embarrassed. So many times, on offense it looked like at least one player was running the wrong play, and the defense just looked either over-matched or disinterested.

I felt that way during the solich era too, but only later on like after the Colorado game in 2001. I actually thought that Callahan could turn things around, but hey I was only 16 when he was hired, what did I know?

Just glad to have things the way they are now.

I actually loved the 02 and o3 seasons. 02 was very humbling and really made me appreaciate games like missoui (my families first game in Lincoln) and texass that year (i have chosen to block out ole miss). And 03 was exciting because all I could think of was "what if Solich would've had Pelini in 01?"

I always wondered what if Solich with his new regime would have been allowed a couple more seasons with Bo calling the D and the other old and new faces of that regime?

It's really interesting when you talk to those who have come before you as Husker fans (I'm 25, so anyone who's been a Husker fan longer than that). While I gladly welcome our move to the Big 10, there's lots of folks who are resistant to the change, & they will be for a long time simply based on the many traditions we've had in the Big 8 & Big 12. Usually I counter with the argument "Our rivalries will be even better & more nationally recognized in the Big 10 because now we'll be facing even more historied football programs. Plus, we really don't have to travel that much further since the Big 10 is regional." Not surprisingly, the counter to that goes something like "Even so, I don't like how we're throwing our century-long traditions with Kansas, ISU, OU, etc out the window. What ever happened to loyalty?" And so on & so forth, I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.

No doubt there's lots of opinions to be heard about this change. And I, for one, really enjoy & appreciate hearing what the old school Husker fans have to say. Much respect to our Big Red elders :bigredn:

I know its the best move overall - but it took me 8 years to stop calling the conference Nebraska was in the "Big 8"

The only long tradition that had true meaning was with OU. (jimho) Check out how extremely lop sided the other series were. KU, kSu, ISU are pretty freakin' one sided over the last 30 years.

I look forward to how the move changes our tradition into something with more substance. :horns2

Living in Chicago it is a very interesting time.

I can not tell you how many comments (mostly positive)I get now when wearing my Husker gear out. I think this is a very positive move and will get NU more National attention.

I felt that the Big 12 ruined a lot of traditions. They tried to make a rivalry out of Colorado, but that never had the feeling of OU.

It will be goood to start over.

With the move to the Big10, 1110 KFAB will still have those pregame shows 4 hours before each game and 4 hours after right??? I am one of those guys who listens to the radio pretty much the entire day on game day.

Yes. Love the hours and hours of shows, but I really abhor the commercials. I'm betting they get nearly half their yearly budget from those commercials, though. Those shows are a real money-maker.
