No. The position he's in-the two point-qualifies as set. He was gonna get a penalty if he moved a foot to regain balance. While it's funny and ridiculous and par for the course for the offense's performance, I understand why he did what he did. He was trying to hold on till the ball was snapped.

Even famous Husker-lover Herby said he was trying to hold on as long as he could hoping they'd snap it. Would people feel a lot better if he just gave up and stood up? Just an easy target because of everything else that went on.

Oh, I'm pretty sure most everyone on this board--and probably most football fans nationwide--knew what he was doing. It's just that most linemen would have stepped back out of it at some point. And you have to admit, taking it to the ground like that does make Jake look sort of silly.

But yeah, silly or not, I do sort of feel bad for him.

A smart decision would be to get into a stance that one could hold for more than ten seconds...he couldn't pull that off after how many years in football, and that is why he is getting the sh#t he's getting.

He doesnt having anyone over top of him, so he woulda had that extra half second he woulda needed to regain his balance at the snap.

The issue is he was trying to anticipate the snap and lost his balance because it didn't happen when he was expecting it to. By the time he realized that, he was committed to rocking back. Not going to come back from that.

Had he timed it right, he would have been fine.

If the ball is snapped he is free to take a step and engage, and even if he fails on a block, we have a chance at a positive play instead of a guaranteed 5 yard penalty.
