January Announcements

Michael Rose, along with a good amount of other sources, has said that Husker Nation will be celebrating Christmas in January. With the all-star games coming up and recruits planning on announcing their commitments, I thought I'd start a thread to compile any and all announcment dates/information and discuss our thoughts on the recruits all the way up until their commitment!

Several All-Star games coming up, including an important one tonight. Anyone know of our targets that plan announcing tonight?

Also, new to the selection process... will the selections be televised like the game?

i am wondering if the texas pipeline has dried up. nebraska now in the big 10(which i think sucks) , and it seems it has put a damper on the texas recruiting efforts....there have been quite a few texans that nu has tried to get, but have lost their commitments to texas schools.. i never liked the nu joning the big 10, one reason was recruiting.....nu has not had a great track record in the areas where they now play

Yep, it dried up. That happened the day we announced we were moving to the B1G. Kinda sucks. Guess you have not been around a lot lately.

funny how so many on here denied the move's impact on Texas recruiting

"Impact"? Of course ... lots of things "impact" recruiting. "Dried up" ... in one season ... does that really deserve any kind of an answer? A "fan" that will not allow 2, 3, 4 seasons to begin to see "trends" upon which you then evaluate and re-evaluate your strategies is a difficult "fan" to interact with.

Beating the drum again ... well of course it is gonna affect Texas recruiting. And we will continue to recruit Texas, as well as Cali, Florida, Georgia, Penn, Ohio, Maryland ... we recruit all over. I know you know this ... but it's crazy to say "I'm wondering if the Texas pipeline has dried up" ... that's just crazy. Since we have one TX recruit on board (TA) and one Nebraska (state) commit (Cotton) on board ... I guess I'm gonna go ahead and say this ... since we are now in the B1G ... I'm wondering if the Nebraska (state) pipeline has dried up. One would have to conclude that as well if we are gonna go to these extremes.

What channel will show the game? I've looked at the sports channels for this evening and don't see it listed.

Avery Moss and Jared Afalava are both announcing tonight. I believe the channel is CBS Sports Network.

we recruited texas successfully long before the big 12. we dominated there last year despite heading to the big 10. we will continue to recruit there successfully. it is an overrated phenomenon. we recruit nationwide period and one area will always be texas.

Exactly. I tickles me when outsiders say how a particular scenario(I.e. a move to another conference or a presence of another coaching staff) is perceived to take away a recruiting pipeline of a certain area. Nebraska's recruiting strategy has ALWAYS required us not to rely on any one area to recruit from.

I agree with Sheepdog, we need to give it another 2-3 years to see how it pans out. I also think we should be prepared to look beneath the numbers. If we only start getting 1-3 players out of Texas instead of the 4-7 we had seen, is that because the staff is having greater success in another local or because they are shaving difficulty convincing Texans to come to Lincoln. If you are pulling players out of Ohio and Ill more, you will naturally not pull in players from another location as the total number you can take is perpetually limited.
