Jekyll and Hyde: UCLA 1st half Huskers or UCLA 2nd half Huskers?

NUance

Assistant Coach
I don't know what to make of this team. Do we see the UCLA 1st half Huskers? Or (gulp) the UCLA 2nd half Huskers? The 1st half Huskers slaughter the Jackrabbits, grill them up, and wash them down with bourbon. Neat. The 2nd half Huskers don't convert on 3rd downs, miss tackles, and struggle mightily against even the weakest foe. I think event the 2nd half Huskers would win this game today. But not by much. So who shows up on Tom Osborne field today?

After all that's transpired, I think this team just wants to get on the damn field and PLAY! Go 1st half Huskers!

Yeah, I think Wyoming and UCLA are both better teams than we first thought. (UCLA >>Wyo, btw). But you have to admit we looked like a different team in the first half last week, versus the second half. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it--the Huskers falling off that much. Weird.

I think you're wrong about the second half Huskers...I think they lose.

This is what is crazy. Everyone like to focus on the 2nd half and rightfully so. But it basically ignoring the first half.

UCLA 1st Half Possesions:

1 - 3rd & Long followed by a busted coverage then three and out from there

2 - INT by SJB

3 - Needed three plays to get a 1st down followed by a busted coverage then held them to a FG from there

4 - 3 and Out

5 - 3 and Out

6 - Needed three plays to get a 1st down followed a completion then held them to a FG from there

7 - Missed sack on 3rd & 12 followed by a great pass then they score a TD

8 - One completion, FG missed half

The majority of their yards - 134 out of 206 - came on five plays. Two of them were busted coverages, one was a missed sack that was about a 20 yard difference in yardage let alone possession and two plays that they made. We totally dominated the first half and even if we make one more play - the sack - we likely go into half up 21-3 and maybe more.

Nebraska 1st Half Possesions

1 - Two drops on catch-able balls to our two best receivers

2 - TD

3 - TD

4 - Started on our own 3, got three first downs before the failed option where we lost 20 yards, punt

5 - TD

6 - 3 and out

7 - Trying to kill the clock to go to half, 3 & out

So we stopped ourselves on the first drive, scored three TDs, ran a terribly executed option and they stopped us once before we tried to kill the clock. We stopped ourselves as much as they stopped us.

I'm sure it's the optimists' view but that was (overall) a very well game-planned and executed half. Up two scores at half against a good team and we could have been up more if we had really played well. There is improvement to be made but we're not that far off.

Too much detail for my feeble mind. I look at it like this:

1st half:

NU___21

UCLA_10

2nd half:

NU____0

UCLA_31

No, not yet......I didn't think they looked all that great.
And, of course, them not looking all that great had nothing to do with some of the things that we did well.
Of course....our first half was pretty good, but if I'm reading the signs they didn't strike me as a team Alabama is worried about. I could be wrong.

Only if we admit Wyoming is also elite ... and a 5-loss Wisconsin team from last year was elite. o more excuses for Bo's defense. He has proven over a sustained period of time that his defense is below average.

He's also proved over a sustained period of time that he can have an elite defense.
