ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Joba Chamberlain was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the New York Yankees, who had not yet revealed details about his injured pitching shoulder.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said before Wednesday night's game against Texas that he had no updates regarding Chamberlain's examination by noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Alabama.
Chamberlain was sent to see Andrews after undergoing an MRI on his ailing right shoulder Tuesday. The 22-year-old right-hander was removed from Monday night's start against the Rangers in the fifth inning with stiffness in his shoulder.
Girardi said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was flying back to New York on Wednesday, and an update on Chamberlain would likely come later.
New York called up reliever Chris Britton from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Chamberlain on the roster.
