Cornerback: Howard Wilson, Houston and Chris Jones, Nebraska

Wilson has touched the ball nearly as often as the receivers he has been covering as he has three interceptions and two passes defensed while allowing eight catches for 51 yards on his 19 targets (2.7 yards per target). Opposing quarterbacks have a passer rating of 10.1 when targeting him. Jones has two interceptions and two passes defensed on his 23 targets and he’s yet to miss a tackle this season.

Safety: Marcus Williams, Utah and Nate Gerry, Nebraska

Few safeties have made an impact quite like Williams who has two interceptions and a pass defensed to go with a forced fumble and recovery. He’s the only safety in the nation to rank in the top four both against the run and in coverage. Gerry has the nation’s top coverage grade at 92.1 and he’s done a fine job of cutting down on the missed tackles that have plagued him in the past – he’s made all but one of his 26 tackle attempts.

That's great that he is doing well in coverage, but I thought I have seen somewhere (Benning???) that Gerry missed some run fits that caused a few of the long runs we have seen (one vs Oregon and the Thorson run)

I though the Thorson run was more on the LB and not Gerry?

They are college players. They aren't perfect every single play.

I would agree. I thought Gerry did good taking out lead block and making Thorson cut back in. There was just no LB'er there. MRI was playside and reacted slow and got blocked and Bando came across from backside but just didn't quite get there.

I think we were lined up too heavy to one side. We only had four guys on that side of the center. They blocked down and pulled to guys and we simply didn't have enough guys to get off the blocks. MRI took a couple steps with flow and by the time he tried to get back there was someone there to block him.

Play is at 37:21

Does anybody actually think Gerry stinks? I think he got some things to work on, but he's an All-Conference level player.
Maybe it's just me, but I have heard very little Gerry bashing.

There are a few select posters who think he A) Isn't very good and B) Is not as good as Williams.....

I know I should've posted this directly in the thread that I argued with them, but I couldn't remember who they were or where it was.

It's just not true, Gerry is a stud and by far our best Safety right now. I'm glad those around him are getting better though.

Crazy what running a scheme that puts players in a position to succeed will do.
What do you mean here? Compared to what? What was run last year? Or what was run the year he made all conference as an underclassman?
