Just a thought

Four-Star Recruit
Say we fired Callahan after this year. How interesting would it be to see the Huskers playing a spread offense next year lead by Joe Ganz?

I would really not like to see a spread offense at Nebraska. It just doesnt make any sense. First we run the option, then we completely change and run the west coast offense. Finally we are starting to get some guys in here that are made for the west coast, I am talking about guys like Witt, Gabbert, and most of our receivers. The spread offense is just another version of the option and would be a mainly running offense which would mean we would have to start recruiting different types of guys all over again. Right now we have the big bodied possession receivers where we would want guys that can stretch the field and a dual threat running qb. I would love to see us stick with the west coast offense and just dummy it down a bit. Get rid of the zone blocking scheme altogther and run a power running game with hardly any shifts and a more simple way of calling the plays I mean what the plays are called. It just doesnt make any sense to have guys like Patrick Turner and Limas Sweed and Dwayne Jarret and Manningham and a countless number of other freshman get in the games on some of the best teams in the nation but then when it comes to our players such as Paul and Holt and Brooks we sit them and play guys that know the system. This makes the coach have to call a perfect game instead of letting the players work for you. But Coz does need to go!! I say lets see what happens with a better D Coordinator give Callahan some more time and see what happens.

OR...

What if we 'Off'ed' Stevie-P and buried him under the field turf near the 27 yardline of the Southwest hashmark. All of our players would know about it and use it as an additional blocker and funneling runners towards it on defense....the opposing players would have no idea. It would be the greatest home advantage in college football and his greatest contribution to the program!!!!

(Isn't it great how/where our minds wander when times are troubling???)

Those same receivers would work great in the Spread also. I mean if you wanna talk about big bodied receivers just look at Mizzou and that seems to be working out quite well.

i agree. we have athletes on both sides of the ball, but honestly we are stuck with a defensive coach who complicates the schemes and can't adjust and an offensive coach who makes a playbook for the NFL and talent be damned, you got to spend 2 years learning this f'd up system. getting rid of coz would help, keeping cally will only be a slow death for the rest of the program.
