Just finished our "young pups" football camp

I don't know if anyone has any experience coaching kids 4-6 grade, but, man what a job. Maybe I was this bad too, but it sure felt like they had an attention span of 10 seconds or less. I don't feel like I was like that. Maybe I was.

7-8 grade was much better and I think we're making progress! Head coach had them play a flag football tournament at the end of each day and the kids love it. Got alot of work in and had fun in the process. Good things coming!

I coach my son's 8-9 year old baseball team, and they have no attention span. We do a good job of splitting our practices into short stations where they rotate and get reps. But, it can be a frustrating effort to work with kids that young.

We were in the middle of a close game on Tuesday night, when I get the question "Coach, when is our next game?". I just turned around and said "let's worry about this game that's still going on."

Yep those kinds of questions get me a little fired up in my head. I have to think before I speak most of the time. Also probably why I don't coach that age other than for one week a year.

I'm much more suited for HS.

Yeah, I have, for a long time. I am getting a bit tired of coaching. I wish that I wasn't but I am...Like I said before my best coaching friend no longer coaches and it has made things really boring. I hate making up practice plans and I have been coaching long enough that I can pretty much tell you exactly what our record will be before the season starts.

I also am really starting to despise the jacka$$ dad coaches that glom on and ruin programs and the league while their kids are playing. But, that is another post for another time

Not trying to thread-jack, but I love it when Teach starts to complain about "Dad coaches". His thoughts on the subject are great!!!

Man, I could go on and on...but to make it simple...Dad's can/should coach their kids teams until 6th grade, tops. After that, let the schools take over. If the schools don't have teams, fine, keep coaching. Then make sure you stop when they get to high school. No high school wants a dad coach around (or hardly ever do they want that)

Amen to that man! I can't stand when parents meddle. It's not even always the Dad, some of the Mom's can get ridiculous too.
