Kevin Thomsen #37

RedDenver

Heisman Trophy Winner
I mentioned it in another thread, but I didn't see a topic about it so:

I think the Thomsen story is getting overlooked because of Roy's big day, the Martinez injury, surprising starts of Cassidy and Osborne, and true frosh Ciante Evans playing well. Thomsen had never played in any game and then comes in against the #6 team in the nation - who has a tremendous offense - and not only plays solid but records a sack. Hopefully the media picks up on this story because it's another great one in the line of legendary walk-ons. Anyone know anything else about this kid?

I played against him in high school, he was hands down the best player I faced while I went to Gretna. He was a fullback, and I was a DT and I hated tackling him. Very happy to see him get some PT in a big game. GBR

Another player worth mentioning was #32 Jim Ebke. The guy came out and laid the wood on special teams in effort to make up for the loss of Martin. I saw two separate occasions where this guy took a player out on special teams.

Love our walk on program. If you haven't already, check out this documentary.

He played linebacker and fullback at Elkhorn High for coach Mark Wortman. Great kid, real coachable, good athlete. He threw shot and discus in Class B and A. I think he got 5th in Class A in shotput his senior year. Medaled a few times in discus as well.

I think he started as a fullback at NU, but since we hardly seem to use them, he was switched to LB, then to defensive end.

I'm so glad you posted this! During the game I noticed him on the field and couldn't figure out who he was. I asked around but nobody near us had ever heard of him, and up in the nosebleeds in the North end zone we couldn't read the name.

I would love for more to come out about this guy.
