Key stats that can win or lose games

Here are some stats that can make or break a team. I used Penalty yards per game and 3rd down conversions. There are plenty of stats that make or break a team but these 2 are significant. I used Wisc to compare for those Badger fans here.

Penalty yards per game

  • Nebraska 52.5 Wisc 41.3
  • In losses this year Nebraska 64.7 Wisc 24.5
  • from August/Sept Nebraska 41.5, Oct 57.8, Nov 58.3 / Wisc 55.5, Oct 34.8, Nov 33.5

3rd Down conversion

  • Nebraska offense: 43.65% Defense allowed 40.88%
  • Wisc offense 55.24% Defense 36.14%

Again, there are many more stats that are a telling tale of what went wrong, but these 2 stand out.

Why are you comparing Nebraska and Wisconsin? Wouldn't a full breakdown of the B1G make more sense? What is the significance of Wisky?

 
I only did that because Wiscy seemed to be the torch barer of the BIG this year. In comparison, only MSU came close to penalty yardage from Aug to Nov for teams we played. Most improved (penalty yardage went down) or stayed close to their average.

 
My concern is that Pelini's teams have always shown mental lapses that lead to penalties. I'm hoping he and his staff come to terms with this and find ways to improve.

 
I think Wisconsin is the media's torch bearer for the B1G, in reality though I think there are about 5 teams that can win against each other on any given Saturday, the conference just doesn't have that one dominant team this year...

Michigan

Michigan State

Nebraska

Penn State

Wisconsin

I also this this group goes 3-2 in their bowl games...
