Kicking Game

Ok the lack of a feild goal kicker finally beat us! And why do we insist on continuing to us Congdon on kick offs when he can't get it past the 20!

Also Callahan made the most bone head call I have ever seen with the double reverse from Todd to Shanle! What's that about? Two guys who hardly ever handle the ball and inside our own 20? :WTH

Some one needs to wakeup!

I will also say that my favorite wiping boy Cosgrove seemed to call a good game! The tigers score 3 points on our defense in my mind the other 14 points are on our Coach and a QB who was just lacking any touch today!

Something I had forgotten about is we were against the wind in the 4th quarter. Taking that into consideration, there may have been no way anyone could have made that kick.

exactly. while there is no doubt that we need a better kicker, there aren't many college players who have a great chance of making a 47 yard field gold into the wind.

Not another one of these threads........................There was no way Jordan was going to make that kick from 46 yards into the wind considering his long on the season was 40. Coach new that so that's why we didn't see him, but the 4th and 11 play was a long shot anyways and it didn't help that Zac threw it out of bounds. It was a hard call to make in that situation regardless. Kick it and miss the field goal or go for it on 4th and 11.................

Without the wind, I think he might put him out there. But against the wind, no way.

I also remember reading in the press guide when he was an incoming freshman that the majority of his kicks went out of the endzone, and he had made a FG beyond 55 yards. But when I saw his kickoffs in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, I got a reality check. I also remember Congdon saying he had improved his leg strength during last pre-season. Sorry Jordon. You just don't have the gift of booting the rock far.

Also, remember that the tee is different sizes. The ball sits higher off the ground in high school than it does in college. But I do agree, that we need help in the kicking game. It also doesn't help that we only attempted seven field goals throughout the whole year. I love going for it on fourth and short but we also need to use the kicker some to gain his confidence and our own confidence in the kicker. How many of the seven attempts were longer than 40 yards? I know that 40 was his longest make this year, but if we never try to kick any longer field goals, then how do we know that he can't make them.

I agree, especially in our cupcake preseason games, why not throw him out there before half and attempt a 45-50 yarder to test him out in a gameday situation.

It seems that it would be a good idea for the high schools to switch to a college kicking tee. Some of these kids just might have an eye on playing after college. At least it would give them a chance to maybe try playing a different position once they see what it takes to make the kicks off the college tee's. A rude awakening once your in college and find out there's no pro ball in your future and it's to late to change positions.

GBR!!!

Wind or not, here is a little trip down memory lane. OWH Link
Very interesting. I recall that hype for Congdon as well...I was looking for a great career at NU for him. What happened? He is weak on KO's and there is no trust in him for any long FG's. He's turned into a liability. Hope he can turn it around but if not we need to move on.

I guess its a sign that everything read about a recruit should be taken with a grain of salt. Many recruits are overhyped for the sake of recruiting.
