Kids at the Game

So, im thinking about taking my kids to there first husker experience. Now there 7 and 10 and im pretty positive there not ready to actually go into the game (disabilities). But i would love them to experience the atmosphere, maybe walk around and see the sights. What time can you walk around the stadium and are there any other kid activities that me and the girls can do before the game actually starts.

There's a Fan Experience event every game day at the track just to the NE of the stadium. It's free, and I think there are kid-related activities. You can also walk all around the stadium before the game and soak in the atmosphere.

The self-guided tour door is always open, 8am-5pm, at the SE corner of the stadium. Big red gated door kinda tucked into the corner between east & south stadium. You walk down the ramp and you can see the field from the balcony.

 
Look, who am I to argue with some of you folks who obviously know better than me. (not being sarcastic) But i remember a few years ago when i went to a game i missed the opportunity to walk onto the field with a bunch of other fans. I also remember several posts of people getting to do this before the games. Now unless theyve changed the rules, or im crazy.

 
I'm just spit ballin here but I'm pretty darned sure they aren't letting anybody just wander around the field on their own, whether it's an hour before or 5 hours before or even the day before. Maybe back in the day but not in the last 15 years. I hope for your kids sake I'm wrong but if you really want to get on the field, you better find out when and where those escorted tours are.

 
I'm not condoning this, especially with the kiddos along, but I've happened onto the field a few times and I'm not entirely sure I was supposed to be there. Oh well.

I don't really know for sure either but they don't let people with tickets into the stadium until 1.5-2 hours before the game. I doubt they're going to let anyone in longer than that before the game only to have to make sure they get everyone cleared back out before the people with tickets can come in.

 
Here's what I found on Huskers.com although I'm not sure I really understand what it's telling me about game day.

For your safety and security most areas on the self-guided tour are generally accessible seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Memorial Stadium and the Gate 23A viewing area closes when the Huskers (or their opponents) are practicing in the stadium or have a home game. On the day before home games, Memorial Stadium will not be accessible after 1 p.m. The entire stadium will be off-limits to walk-ins 30 minutes before kickoff on game days and remains closed until the following morning at 8 a.m.


West and North Stadium Lobbies Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. except on game days: The d!(k and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex (West Stadium) was renovated in 2010 and features several academic displays, while the Osborne Athletic Complex (North Stadium) was built in 2006 and includes a beautiful 40' waterfall, Sullivan art mural, video kiosk, Husker Nation Championship Drive donor display, a peek at the Suh Strength Complex and Athletic Medicine area, National Championship and Bowl Trophy displays and the Nebraska Heisman Room. Conference championship trophies displayed on Level 2 are also visible from the Lobby. On game days, the West Stadium Lobby opesn three hours prior to kickoff and the Osborne Athletic Complex Lobby opens four hours prior to kickoff. Both lobbies close 30 minutes prior to kickoff.

Well thanks for the info guys, kinda of a bummer but i guess ill just half to buy tickets for the 5 minutes the kids will be willing to stay into the game and experience the crowd. I could of sworn you could get into the stadium but i guess i misread. Thanks for all the info guys.

One option: the band's gameday rehearsal in the stadium is open to the public (usually draws between a handful and a couple hundred spectators, mostly family and friends or band alumni). It typically begins around 5 hours before kickoff and runs for about 2 hours, depending on the time of the game. You can enter through a gate in the southwest corner. You won't be able to get onto the field, but you can walk around some parts of the stadium a bit as long as you stay out of trouble.

I'm pretty sure you're right, that you used to be able to do this, but not anymore, and not for quite a while. Back in the day, I used to run the south stadium steps, all 98 or 99 rows. These days you can't get in there unless you're an athlete or grounds crew.

I want to say that all changed around 9/11, when everyone got really paranoid about security. Maybe it was after the Oklahoma City bombing.
