Kyler Reed to slot receiver?

Considering the lack of depth at TE, I don't see the coaching staff moving him. Besides he's a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses as a TE.

He creates mismatches at TE with his speed. He won't create those mismatches at wr. I can see moving him around some ala Coffman at Mizzou but he should stay at TE.

Mike McNeil had to be moved, because he was a worse blocker than any typical late stage tuberculosis victim.

I'd bet Kyler stays put, even though I think Ben Cotton is pretty solid at the TE spot as well.

It bothers me when people point to Watson for Mike having a fairly nondescript season. I put that squarely on McNeil's shoulders, because he is a liability in the run game. He just flat out won't/can't pick up a freakin block. Everyone loves the guy because he can make plays in the passing game, and nobody can dispute that. He's dangerous downfield, especially when you have him matched up with an LB who just can't keep up with him. But that's all he does. That's all he's ever contributed. I will not miss seeing Mike standing upright, looking backwards at his tailback on the ground with three defenders on him and Mike disengaged from any contact.

I'm not buying your explanation.

If McNeil was so bad at blocking then how come he saw playing time at WR? Our WRs are supposed to be able to block like lineman, otherwise they don't see the field. This is why people get angry when a WR with great hands is on the bench simply because they do not block well enough.

Possibly because he is now blocking a DB instead of a DE??????

This explanation you "aren't buying" is spot on...

To answer the original question, it's doubtful, we have very little at TE besides Cotton and Reed. But with that said, Reed is an awful blocker, worse than McNeill by far, and McNeill is a pretty crappy blocker at the TE spot.

Side effect of not passing a lot this year.

If you're gonna ask for a 70% running 'like the old days' offense, you can expect to see some lower stats out of your receiving playmakers.

That was the biggest issue for McNeil this year IMO. The issue last year was Zac's injury and not passing a whole lot later in the year, IMO.

I think he is a solid TE and we should leave him be. That being said though, I think he could succeed at the reciever position. He has had experience there in high school and freshman year he played there a little bit. I put my money on him staying though.

The only upside for the move to me is that Reed isn't much of a blocker yet, Cotton and whatever walk-on we plug-in would likely hold their own better.
