The No. 5 Nebraska volleyball team opened play in the Ameritas Players Challenge with a 25-20, 25-11, 25-16 sweep of Virginia on Thursday at the NU Coliseum. 

Tara Mueller was Nebraska's leader, blasting 14 kills on .583 hitting.

 

Thursday's match marked the return of Virginia head coach Lee Maes, who was a Nebraska assistant from 2005 to 2007.

 

Nebraska will take on BYU on Friday. The Cougars fell in four sets to UCLA in Thursday's tournament opener.

I'm pretty happy with the way the girls have bounced back from that sweep from Michigan. We're looking pretty good right now, and I'm excited to see if they can keep it up for UCLA.

 
The standing ovation for Lee Maes was wonderful. It would have gone on much longer had the announcer not cut in.
