Landry's desperation hail-mary

Not sure if this has been posted but...

Faced with second-and-10 a yard inside Nebraska territory with just over 30 seconds to play, redshirt freshman quarterback Landry Jones heaved a desperation pass that floated short of the end zone and was easily intercepted by Matt O’Hanlon. It was O’Hanlon’s third interception of the night and Jones’ fifth.

"We take everybody deep and run one guy on a comeback,” said offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. "So you’re showing the illusion of going deep and running one guy on an underneath route. Unfortunately, our quarterback didn’t see that part of the signal and just chucked it.”

Wilson wanted Jones to throw to Ryan Broyles near the 30-yard line, but the missed signal led to Jones not looking Broyles’ way.

"I don’t think that was the really critical part of our game. It was just one of many mistakes that we made,” Wilson said. "He’s just a kid that misread a signal. Wasn’t that big a deal.”

I'm guessing the OU fans feel a lot like we did after the Iowa State game. It's kind of ironic how similar the two games played out. I'm just glad we acted as the spoiler in one of them.

OMFG. No it is not.
Yeah losing to a nebraska team with one of the top Defenses in the country on the road without your qb, te and the entire oline is not anywhere near the level of disgrace as losing to ISU at home without their qb and rb.

No, we had takeaways. We sent Iowa State giveaways.

I think they're treating Kevin Wilson like we'd been treating Wats. Probably undeservedly too.

I think it was very similar to the ISU loss. Both games had one team giving the ball away like it was AIDs, both were very low scoring, Most of OU turnovers came will driving into our territory much like most of ours were lost in ISU territory. In both games the heavy underdog won.

Nebraska wasn't a heavy underdog.

NU gave away the ball to ISU when a touchdown was imminent 3 times. OU wasn't even inside the Nebraska 20 when they turned the ball over. Amukamara straight up stole his pick. O'Hanlon earned one of his. Dillard benefitted from a ridiculous pass rush on his pick. Hell, even on the 2 other floaters that Jones heaved up, he was hearing footsteps. Big difference between that and Meno just hanging the ball out like a damn loaf of Wonder Bread.

4 TO's inside the 5....... OU never got inside our 20.......similar but not the same

How are the Sooner fans treating Jones down there in Okieland?
Well.....Remember how Jesus got crucified?... <_<
That pretty much sums it up. Landry is on the middle cross and K. Wilson and B. Stoops are on the two smaller crosses. I haven't really listened to the sports channel too much lately (namely cuz the guy I work with listens to that d!(k-head Howard Stern :bang ) but the little I have, fans really want to see Wilson fired/replaced. I think they realize he's a freshman who was thrust into the starting role because Bradford was hurt and as a result, he'll make mistakes. Personally I think Landry will be another good QB that comes out of OU.

If you look at the stats and compare first downs, 3rd down percentage, etc.; the games were very similar. Nebraska wasn't a huge underdog and the games are a bit different. First of all, Nebraska's talent isn't as much lesser than OU's than Iowa States was of Nebraskas. We were playing in our back yard pulling off this win rather than doing it in Norman as Iowa State came into Memorial Stadium and did it. People can say all they want, but I almost bet the OU fans feel like they let this one slip away just like we felt we let the Iowa State game slip away.

OU made a lot of mistakes, and this is why they lost the game. I thought their OC called a horrible game. On a 4th and short, they tried to run some very slow developing sweep to the outside where we had way more defenders than they had blockers. Jones while not having a great game did put the ball on the money at different times where his receivers just didn't catch the ball. The missed field goals just added more troubles for them.

It was a great win for us even though our offense basically got dominated. I sat through the entire game just waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. It wasn't until that foolish hail mary that I breathed a sigh of relief.

I don't recall seeing an OU receiver with a wide-open clear run to the endzone fumble the ball either. :dumdum
