Laptops...

i just bought a gateway a few weeks ago. Just a basic set up with some nicer features (web cam, DVD-R) . It was a pretty good deal. (around $500). We just use it for messing around on the web and some Microsoft office stuff. It has given us no problems and runs well. I know that you know your computer stuff. But if you want something a little cheaper that can serve the normal student(papers, web brosing, light to medium storage or music and pics) I think a Gateway would be fine.

My wife and I currently own two Toshiba laptops and both run very well. We haven't had any problems with them

I got a Dell XPS when I started college. The thing is my LIFE and it has never failed me. A friend of mine, M I K E has one too, and his doesn't work as well as mine (probably due to him dropping it on the ground)

But the XPS is awesome, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I used to work for Dell (service tech) and I can tell you, the XPS is the top of the line for them. Anything lower tier I wouldn't advise. The XPS is a solid choice though, depending on which one of course.

I bought a Sony Vaio last year. It is horrible. Windows 7 isn't causing me any problems - It is this ridiculously shoddy computer. It is a well-known error that sometimes you can't right-click. It is crazy how bad this thing is. Worst computer I have ever bought.
