I have a personal experience relating to what this great group is trying to accomplish.
In the winter of 2001, I was a brand new recruit, fresh out of basic, at my tech school and generally unaware. Bussed from San Antonio to San Angelo after basic, I arrived just in time for this training base to shut down for the holiday break. It was a no-man's land. I had the means thanks to family to get back home on such a short notice from a pretty remote and not cheap airport to not spend the Holiday's in the barren barracks knowing hardly a soul-except a now lifelong buddy that was in my same career field.
Such is life sometimes that he couldnt afford to go home to his family. My Pops called bullsh#t when I glassed over it because of course he had heard me talk of this friend in every conversation we had and the hi-jinks we'd been through together. Long story short, Pops flew his butt home.
Things worked out and we got stationed at the same base after tech school, and when my dad came to visit, he had two sons there to hangout and raise hell with himself.
