Student Cited for Gun Possession
On November 30, 2010, at 12:45 p.m., the School Resource Officer at Lincoln High School was
alerted to a possible weapon on school grounds. The officer received information that a 16 year old
was carrying a handgun in his backpack and showing it to other students. The suspected sophomore
was located outside a classroom and the loaded Taurus .38 revolver was seized from his backpack.
Shaquille Winston was cited for Carrying Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Handgun by a Minor
and Possession of a Firearm at a School, then released to his mother.
There is no indication that he ever threatened to harm anyone with the weapon. The incident was
handled quickly and successfully, without the need for code red, lock-down status. At this time, the
investigation is on-going, as officers attempt to determine how Winston came to possess the handgun.
