Little Tidbit on the 07 KU offense

If Beck plans on running something similar than that could bode well for our team.

Todd Reesing was a pretty good passer--better than anyone we got right now--and a great field general. I'm bettin we'll be even less pass oriented than KU 2007.

We won't be AS 1-D as last year. I don't wanna beat the Oregon dead horse, but the fact that they had a passing threat made their running game that much more potent. Very similar to what we had in the 90's. But everyone that says we MUST have the ability to complete passes is right.

yes this much is true. just being a threat to complete passes will open up our offense.

It was a balanced offense, to be fair, take the 26 sacks out of rushing attempts and make them passing attempts.

Runs

512-26= 486

Passes

476+26= 502

So in reality the passed it a bit more than they ran, but still very balanced.

Run, pass....no matter. So long as the team can pick up ____ &>5 with any consistency....we'll all be happy.

Agreed.

I wouldn't expect similar offensive stats to '07 KU, though. Their schedule that season was ridiculously easy and involved no Texas, Oklahoma or Big 12 title game.

Anything could happen though.

and being basically one dimensional is good?
Last time I checked, one-dimensional was not good. Either one-dimensional in running, or one-dimensional in passing. Why would you think that?

I said in my post above that Todd Reesing is a better passer than anyone we have on the roster. My guess would be that we have *less* of a passing attack than KU did in 2007. Even so, I'd guess we'll be more balanced than we were in the 1990s/early 2000s.

That's a good assumption to make.

I don't know what kind of talent Kansas had at wide receiver that year across the board, and I don't really care to look it up, but my guess would be they had more than one guy who had at least 10 career receptions. Similarly, at running back, they probably had more than one guy with experience. Unfortunately for us we have a lot of bodies but little experience at both of those positions other than two upper classmen. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised this year, though. Kenny Bell seems to have great athleticism. He had a great catch in the spring game where he stutter stepped a couple of times and then blew by the first defender. Similarly, at the running back position, we have guys coming in that should have a good impact.

Well, I don't know where you draw the line for being "one dimensional" but I'd take TO's (run about 80% with some PA) offense or heck "any" offense that we had a real identity over the last seven years of "multiple-balanced" fluffball any day of the week. Give me something that our offense does well reliably over balance (jack of all trades & master of none) & I'm a very happy camper.

Heh.....to each their own though. I just wish Beck the very best of luck.

GBR!!

well, i agree. if we had the killer offensive line that TO put on the field, running 80% of the time would be a good thing, but with the O line we have now, that very likely won't work, not even with a no huddle, quick count offense. that is my real fear, Beck ends up being Wats 2.0...hope i am wrong.
