I got tired of how it was the same thing every week, and then once in a while it'd fire on all cylinders, and look amazing. Then the next week it'd go back to the polished turd it always was.Well, I don't know where you draw the line for being "one dimensional" but I'd take TO's (run about 80% with some PA) offense or heck "any" offense that we had a real identity over the last seven years of "multiple-balanced" fluffball any day of the week. Give me something that our offense does well reliably over balance (jack of all trades & master of none) & I'm a very happy camper.
Heh.....to each their own though. I just wish Beck the very best of luck.
GBR!!
Consistency I think is the most important thing to preach right now. Not just on a down to down basis but on a year to year basis, as well.Well, I don't know where you draw the line for being "one dimensional" but I'd take TO's (run about 80% with some PA) offense or heck "any" offense that we had a real identity over the last seven years of "multiple-balanced" fluffball any day of the week. I find it somewhat hypocritical that the coaches want consistency (as done any coach) but then change the offense twice in two years because the players aren't performing to expectations. Overall, since Pelini took over, we've had three different offenses here. Whether it's the players' fault, the coaches' fault or both is debatable. However, unless this year's offense is catastrophically bad (which won't happen), they have to come back next year with the same thing and keep it going. And they have to find some way to keep the offense productive if injuries occur. In '09 the offense had to go all the way to basics after a couple of injuries and poor consistency, and the '10 offense was pathetic after one big one to Martinez (granted, I do think teams got wise to our act).
We shouldn't have had to use Burkhead in the wildcat to beat a team like Colorado. Furthermore, the coaches can't get happy feet and start changing things the second we have a bad game. No matter the offense, bad games will happen. Only minor things should change in an offense. If we have to keep changing entire packages year and year out that says to me it's a coaching problem. But only time will tell.
Our lack of experience along the Oline is cause for concern this season with a new(fast paced) offence being installed. By my count we have about 40 career starts along the Oline. That isnt very inspiring considering what we have seen from the front 5 the last few years.Consistency I think is the most important thing to preach right now. good post, it addresses one of my concerns as well, keeping to a theme and working more on execution, not trickery, quick counts, no huddles, etc....all that is real nice, but we better know what the hell we are doing before we consistently go on hurry up.....i see lots of motion penalties if the kids are not prepared, more than last season....busted plays will be a real possibility as well.....to me, a quick play offense is for a experienced offense to run, first year, lots of new guys, makes me nervous as hell.
And throw in the fact I'm still not convinced Cotton is a good o-line coach, and I can be colored a pessimist as well. Our lack of experience along the Oline is cause for concern this season with a new(fast paced) offence being installed.
