For how much hype the front 4 got 80th against the run is bad, not sure you can put that all in poor linebacker play
This has as much to do with scheme and linebackers as anything. Most of the damage was done on the outside.

To show you how badly one game can skew stats, in Nebraska's other 12 games they gave up 144.25 yards per game.

Had we held Wisconsin to about 260 rushing yards, which was their average rushing game against the rest of the Big Ten, we would have finished 52nd against the rush, or 26 spots higher.

Had we held them to 100 yards, which Ohio State and vaunted D1AA Western Illinois did, we would have finished 44th in the nation, or 34 spots higher.

Instead, we gave up 581 yards on 53 attempts. 11 yards per attempt. 408 yards to one guy alone, in three quarters of play.

Nope. Not gonna miss that defense one bit.

FIRE BO AND PAPUCHIS!!!!

O wait....

Zaire and Randy are the only ones we'll miss, and I think we can field decent replacements. Instant upgrades at both corner and safety and LB.

Heh. LaVonte David. Interesting conversation with a friend the other night playing the revisionist game 3 years later and knowing what we know now with the obvious lack of accountability and skilled not "getting it" and being buried on the depth chart and so on. Go back to fall of 2010. If Fisher and Compton do NOT get hurt in fall camp, do we even know who LaVonte David is today? Think about that. And remember Bo saying all the time about the mistakes LaVonte was making despite 15 tackles a game and being what seemed everywhere. That my freinds is a mind-boggling concept.

Yep, I've thrown out this same observation before...boggles my mind...

Makes me think if someone is making "mistakes" and yet having large amounts of success... maybe the mistake is your system.

Lavonte made plays inspite of the defensive scheme.

Gosh. Im glad Im not the only one thinking this about David. i think I remember Chaddy bringing it up one time as well.

Now I'll take it a step further. The defense has really been a consistent chinc in the armor really since David's senior year. And all we've heard about since is execution this and that. Think it's possible that some of the players see how successful David was by being clearly a rogue player just flying around on instincts and plyaing football, thus buying into a mentality that they could do the same and not playing sound defense? Then seeing where it go him in terms of NFL success, is it possible that they players have seen that and adopted a mentality of individualism on the defensive side of the ball? I mean, hell, all Bo ever did was preach about LaVonte and all the mistakes he was making, yet in 2011, he carried that defense. Hell, could be said he carried the whole team. But if fans are speculating on the possibility of him never even seeing the field if it hadnt been for injuries, what do you think some former players probably think? Like say guys that played in 2012 and 2013?

Considering our LB play has been horrid with the exception of David in the Pelini era, I think one can easily assume it's scheme. However, I believe it was a combination of scheme and recruiting. I've often wondered if Bo felt like LB's were similar on defense to how Beck felt about TE's and FB's on offense?

Daimion Stafford is another example - split-time player with unimpressive stats here, but he's been starting in the NFL.

Pretty sure Mo Seisay started a game last week or two, too.
