This is the all-decade Husker team I've compiled for tomorrow's paper. Each player's final season as a Husker is in parenthesis.

OFFENSE

RB Cory Ross (2005) … His 2,743 career rushing yards rank ninth on the Husker charts

RB Correll Buckhalter (2000) … Tough call between him, Dan Alexander and Brandon Jackson, but Buckhalter had an impressive 2,522 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns as Husker

WR Nate Swift (2008) … Holds the record for career receptions (166) and is second to Johnny Rodgers in career receiving yards (2,476)

WR Maurice Purify (2007) … Ranks sixth on NU’s career receiving chart (1,444 yards) despite playing just two seasons

OT Carl Nicks (2007) … Starting left tackle for 2007 offense that ranked ninth nationally in total offense

OG Russ Hochstein (2000) … Two-time all-conference selection

C Dominic Raiola (2000) … Rimington Award winner and consensus All-American in 2000

OG Toniu Fonoti (2001) … Consensus All-American in 2001

OT Richie Incognito (2003) … All-Big 12 selection in 2003.

KR DeJuan Groce (2002) … Had 1,218 yards in punt returns and took back five for scores. Named 2002 All-American as a returnman.

Thoughts? Any "egregious" errors?

Not too bad of a list. All the names I can remember are on there for sure. Even though it was a down decade overall for us, we still had some pretty good players. Kind of surprised Lucky's not on there consedering he was a 4 yr. letter winner and 3 yr starter.

Isn't Lucky 4th in NU history in all purpose yards? He should be on this list.

edit: Yeah, Lucky is 4th and Ross is 5th. I don't know where Buckhalter, Alexander, or Jackson rank (not in the top 10). That's a pretty "egregious" error, IMO.

Buck and Ross were no chumps either though. Lucky's up there, too, but those guys had more yards rushing.

I'd like to see a more complete list...as in a 2nd team and maybe some honorable mentions.

Suh was the AP player of the year not defensive player of the year. NOW that is a down right "egregious" error. And can I get a fullback?

Can we give the term 'egregious' some old-school Huskerboard-style "B*******" treatment?

It's like the aftermath of the Big 12 CCG all over again.

I offer: synonyms! Atrocious, Deplorable, Outstandingly Bad, Outrageous, Glaring, Preposterous, Nefarious, .... take your pick! no need to be polite, I got plenty more where those came from.

You have five down lineman with a tight end as well as two running backs and no fullback. That is one interesting offense.

This post is egregious.

I forgot that some of those guys were from this decade....seems pretty legit, but Lucky has to be put on there somewhere. I think Bradley has been a better pro than he did at NU....

Josh Brown as the kicker

Bobby Newcombe as punt returner.

A big-play athlete, Bobby Newcombe (pronounced NEW-come) finished his career ranked second on Nebraska's all-time punt return list with 829 career yards, including a school-record 94-yard punt return for a touchdown in Nebraska's win over Missouri in 2000. Newcombe's return bettered the 92-yard return by Husker Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers against Oklahoma State in 1971 and tied a Big 12 Conference record held by three other players.

Sam Koch’s impressive average bettered the previous record of 45.12 yards per punt by Ray Guy Award finalist and current Cincinnati Bengal Kyle Larson in 2003. Koch’s punting average placed him second nationally and helped Nebraska to a No. 2 national ranking in net punting at 39.85 yards per attempt. Also a standout in 2004, Koch’s career punting average of 44.04 yards is third in school history.

How about Henrey as the punter instead. Pinning the other team deep every freaking time is invaluable.

I'm still now sure how you came up with Carl Nicks as an all decade offensive lineman. Matt Slauson was a two time All Big 12 offensive lineman during his career. Second team All Big 12 in 2007 and first team All Big 12 his senior year.

If not Slauson, what about Dave Volk?

Also I thought Prince Amukamara had a great year but was his one good season worthy of being an all decade pick for defensive back? DeJuan Groce was a 3 year starter, ranks #4 all time for passes broken up (he had 4 interceptions his junior year alone) and he was an All American not to mention being one of the best punt returners in Nebraska football history.
