LJS: Coaches Came Up Short Against tOSU

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw NU play a complete 4 quarters.

How about in Ann Arbor, 3 years ago this week?

This seemed like "a game that mattered."

Nebraska 17, Michigan 13

Nebraska mounted a late fourth quarter drive to win 17–13, tying the all-time series with Michigan at 4–4–1.

The loss snaps a 19-game home winning streak under coach Brady Hoke at Michigan Stadium. The Huskers scored the first 10 points of the game in the first quarter, then Michigan scored the next 13 before Nebraska would come back with the game-winning touchdown with just over two minutes left in the game.

The Huskers outgained the Wolverines in total offense 273 yards to 175 while holding Michigan to minus-21 yards rushing in the contest.

Tommy Armstrong was 11-of-19 for 139 yards with a TD, Ameer Abdullah had 27 carries for 105 yards with one rushing and one receiving TD and Quincy Enunwa had 7 catches for 69 yards to lead the Huskers offensively.

Defensively, Randy Gregory came up with three sacks of Michigan QB Devin Gardner to lead a Blackshirt defense that produced seven sacks on the day.
Nit picking here, but we were scoreless for almost 3 quarters.....Not sure of that makes a complete game. Was it a good game? Absolutely. Any time to go into another teams house and win is good. End their home game winning streak is even better.

I guess a complete four quarters would be doing the right things, at the right time. Winning obviously, limited big plays, no obvious blown covers or assignments, no self inflicted penalties, etc... I guess it comes down to opinion. Watching and see us pass the "eyeball test".

So Sipple finally figured out that these coaches are bad? There is a reason Mike Riley is a career .500 coach. Yeah, yeah, I know; Nebraska was 7-0 at one point this season. But the only reason for that early season success is that the competition wasn't good...and even against THOSE teams, Nebraska struggled early and had to outlast inferior talent. Then they hit the two better teams on the schedule and once again the play calling is suspect, the players seem unprepared, they are undisciplined, and the coaches get out-coached. It's becoming all too familiar.

So here the Huskers sit...@ 7-2 with a couple of decent teams left on the schedule. If they can win a couple of those remaining games, Riley, by virtue of padding the schedule with early wins, can be just slightly above his career .500 average. At this point, we all know that Riley won't be fired. And we know that he won't fire his best friends. For these incompetents, Nebraska is their retirement plan, so we're stuck with them until the end of their contract. The only thing we can hope for is that the idiot that hired Riley isn't in a position to re-sign him at the end of this contract.

The Nebraska fans deserve better than Riley, Langsdorf and certainly more than Banker.
