The Austin paper is running an on-line poll on the most popular team in the Austin Area. Pretty much a given who would win that but they actually put Texas State on the list too. Here is the link. Vote if you wish. I just think it's fun trying to go against the grain.

Austin Poll

I just had to share with you what was actually printed in the Statesman this morning about the on-line poll. They publish the results on the poll in their weekend magazine XL-Ent every Thursday. Next to a picture of a Bobcat football player it says:

"Unitersity of Texas Longhorn fans might be shocked to find out that Bobcat football fanatics at Texas State University San Marcos edged out the home team in Your A-List online voting for favorite local sports team. "

Now that is pretty funny. Thanks guys for helping the Bobcats pull it out.

Your A-List, Best Sports Team: Texas State FootballBy Michael Barnes | Wednesday, December 19, 2007, 11:00 PM

You will break out in an indulgent smile for this Your A-List result: In a city overwhelmingly dominated by Longhorn mania, and particularly orange-tinged fervor for the University of Texas football team that won the national championship two seasons ago, you voted instead for the Texas State University-San Marcos pigskin parade as the Best Sports Team.

The Bobcats went 4-7 in the Southland Conference, and still their fans, or those pretending to be, gave them a whopping 51 percent of the vote. You read it right: San Marcos football trumps all other Central Texas sports teams put together.

UT football? Only 30 percent. Perhaps followers are punishing the players and coaches for a lackluster season. Despite losing only three times (Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M), the Longhorns are expected to compete for the championship ring every year. What they got: a return trip to the Holiday Bowl, granted against a surging opponent, Arizona State.

UT men’s undefeated basketball team, despite its No. 4 ranking in national polls, received only 6 percent of the vote. You can’t win for winning, I guess.

Receiving less than 5 percent were the Round Rock Express, UT baseball, UT women’s basketball, Austin Toros, Austin Ice Bats, UT softball and Austin Wranglers.

The only write-in: The (Expletive) del Fuego, one of Austin’s roller derby teams.

And people are afraid that Austin will forfeit its weirdness. <_<
