Indianapolis, IN -- A man suspected of attacking a CVS pharmacist with a sword Sunday was shot and killed by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy. Alexander Zagoualou, 24, allegedly attacked CVS pharmacist Josh Bennett, 27, Indianapolis, outside the drug store at 86th Street and Ditch Road, cutting Bennett’s hand and face.
Shortly after the attack, a man fitting the suspect’s description was confronted by a sheriff’s deputy a few blocks away at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Viburnum Drive. The man was trying to break into an apartment, officials said.
Deputies said Zagoualou was ordered to drop the 4-foot-long decorative sword he was carrying and was shot when he attempted to swing the sword at the officer.
Sheriff’s Capt. Ron Hotseller said the shooting, reported at about 6:47 p.m., occurred shortly after the incident at CVS.Zagoualou was taken to Methodist Hospital with gunshot wounds to his body. He was later pronounced dead there. Hotseller said the man was conscious, alert and speaking with deputies when he was taken from the scene.
Bennett, the CVS employee, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital. His condition was unknown.
