Marlon Lucky

huskers1

Starter
I was thinking today and I really think that Lucky returns for his senior season. That is unless he has a breakout year and rushes for about 1700 and has another 500 receiving. Mike Hart, Steve Slaton, Darren McFadden, Ray Rice, Ian Johnson, James Stewart, Allen Patrick, and maybe some more are ahead of him right now. Assuming they all produce like they have in prior years they will still be ahead of him for the draft as well. I think Lucky will recognize that he has the potential to make millions more if he waits another year and he will obviously be the man again next year, increase his awareness, knowledge, strength and speed with an improved o line again he could possibly put up huge numbers.

Brandon Jackson wasn't even the starter until game #6 and he became a 2nd rounder. Why not let the season play out?

No way he leaves after this year.
I thought the same thing about Brandon Jackson.
After looking at the RBs mentioned before that shows why Jackson left this last year. He is starting for an NFL team where next year (even with a monster year) he is most likely a backup somewhere. I agree with the first post. With the depth of RBs coming out this year I think Marlon is a fool for leaving...that and he really has yet to live up to that 5 Star potential and I think that gets to him to the point of wanting to step it up.

I agree...let's see how everything turns out...Lucky should come back given the talent that will be in the draft, but who knows...he needs to really perform if he wants to have a nice spot in the draft, and I haven't seen that from him yet.

I think it's too early to even start this thread......but that's not gonna stop me from posting...........I think a lot of it depends on the team success the Huskers have this year. If they were to win the Big 12, does Marlon decide that's enough? And just how important is draft stock to him? This will be a tough decision for him, depending on who else comes out for the draft.

I think it all depends on how he performs against USC and Texas. If you take away his 20 yard TD scamper, his numbers weren't very good against Wake. If he comes out and puts up solid numbers against USC and Texas, I think he'll at least look at going pro at season's end. Also, you know there will be some agent out there that will blow smoke up his a$$ and try to convince him he'll be a 1st or 2nd rounder. If he really struggles against some of our marque matchups this year, I think he will definitely return.

IMO, he's not ready for the NFL. His vision is still suspect in regards to finding the holes. I think he has the hands for an NFL back, but he just doesn't have some of the other things down. I did really like the block he laid on a blitzing safety I believe keeping Keller from getting smashed. He's coming along, but he's just coming along a lot slower than I thought he would. I realize when he was recruited we were thin at RB, but I think a redshirt year would have paid huge dividends.

Going a little on that...A lot of excellent backs have a combination of being able to improvise and wait for the holes to develop and follow the backs.

Lucky waits...plain and simple...watch him, he follows his blocks by religion...that is great fundamentally, but it isn't that great if you are a back that can't improvise...Lucky just hasn't learned that, IMO. I'm not saying he's a bad back because of it, but sometimes, in that split-second when you have the ball and are heading upfield, you not only have to read what your blockers are (or aren't) giving you, but also what the defense is biting on...Mike Rozier, for example, was amazing at this, and I believe what helped him win the Heisman.

It would be nice if Lucky stayed for his senior year. After that whole list of Rb's leave for the next draft he is looking at being one of the best backs in the country next season. Top 5 guaranteed. That should excite him to stay among other things.
