This debate is about a year old.

The fact is, we went a couple years and didn't get good QBs. That was mainly the transition between Clownahan and Bo. Last year we got an absolute stud (supposedly) at QB in Armstrong. We really need him to redshirt this year. We right now have what looks like another stud at QB coming in by the name of Stanton.

Now, supposedly, RK3 is the best passer in the system right now and really knows the offense. He has gotten in the games when we have the game in hand to get some experience.

Last year we had absolutely nobody behind Taylor. This year we have someone who we want to redshirt and someone who knows the offense really well but isn't the athlete that Taylor is so the amount of the offense he can succeed in is limited. NEXT year we will have that stud back up behind Taylor and we will see him in games getting experience as a RS freshman. The future looks bright right now at this position.

This isn't the pros where we can just go out and get a free agent in the off season. When we miss in one or two recruiting cycles, this is what happens. That can happen when coaches change and recruiting of certain types of QBs change.

I am very comfortable with our situation right now at QB.

 
Yeah, but Rex Burkhead has been dealing with a nagging MCL sprain injury. Do you really want to put anymore on his plate? Talk about risk taking...?

Again, I liked Dr. Osborne's no-nonsense ways of handling this.

Coach Pelini is going to put too much on the back of Burkhead. I don't like it. Rex deserves a better career in the NFL, but then we will wear him out in the Big Ten before he even makes the pros.

It's just not right. Coach Pelini needs to spread the duties around his athletes better on offense. It's crazy.

Go ahead and place more wear and tear on the poor guy. I cannot understand why the coaching staff wants to use just a select few to manipulate the zone-read offense when they have recruited a number of high school quarterbacks that could handle that role nicely -- and help Burkhead focus on just being a running back.

He's got to get through this season unscathed -- and he'll need help from the coaching staff to do so.

Have you paid attention to how the ball has been spread around this year to various players? It leaves me scratching my head to think someone believes that Beck/Bo are over using Rex this year.

Yes, I am uber confused right now. Burkhead was injured on what? his 4th carry of the year has only played in 2 games since, in which he toted for what had to be less than 50% of the carries, probably less than 40%. I dont understand the discussion point here, and my head is bouncing of my desk in dismay.

 
The thing is, Rex doesn't feel he is even getting a quarter of what he can handle & us as fans know this as well. The reason they are lighting his load, is to make sure he can take more responsibility in the later season. We will need him, and we need to keep him healthy. As I said, if injury was to happen in a game or two, we would pull Armstrong's redshirt. If it happens later, Kellogg would be named starter, and I am positive we would mix up the wildcat formation with Rex, never stated he would get 100% or even 50% of the snaps, as he didn't last year.

Your looking too far into things, and not realizing what the scheme actually is. So basic breakdown...

If anything use burkhead, abdullah, heard, cross more...we havent needed to besides the ucla game. tbh i have no clue what this guy is talking about. move on :moreinteresting

 
I agree with you HuskerNationNick,

That sounds like a solid plan. Key thing is to keep Burkhead healthy, and he is an excellent wildcat running back.

I watched him several times last year and the year before. He even throws a pretty good redzone pass too.

 
I think we have enough confidence in RK3, and Turner has enough value / spent enough time away from QB, that Taylor going down would mean RK3 up, evolve the offense, and sprinkle in the Rexcat or even Jamalcat.
