Martin tries to regain blackshirt

Hmm...our biggest healthy linebacker loses his blackshirt the week of a game where we face a big, powerful runningback. This couldn't possibly be a motivational ploy, could it?

Carl did say they were using the time-off to get the LB's up to speed. We need Martin to get the D and his gap responsibilities down.

As far as the rest of the article goes it's good to get Marcel Jones back and I wouldn't have a plan to put Green in. He hasn't done anything in the last two games. If TayMart is doing OK leave him in, if not then bring in Green or Lee. I might lean towards Lee.

I think the plan with Green is somewhat intelligent if you get up by three scores. One series, even a disastrous one, against an offense like KState isn't going to ruin you. The problem is they always seem to put him in on situations where's he almost guaranteed failure, i.e., giving him the ball on the ten.

Gotta get the backup some reps, but I'm not a fan of how it's been handled so far.

Seriously. With some of the situations he's been placed in the last two years, you'd think they were pissed at him. If we get up in a game, say against KU or ISU, I'd like to see what Cody could do with extended time.

Did anyone else notice that Martin was absent from the stats sheet last night? I know he traveled for the game, but from what I can tell, he made no contribution.

Whaley started in Martin's place and did well, so there was no dropoff without Martin. What's really sad is that Eric Martin did this to himself. Looking at film of the SDSU game he was jogging or half-hearting it a lot. The guy has worlds of talent, but he just didn't put it on display when it counted.

IMHO I wish we would have seen some of these tactics long ago. I never liked the idea that everyone that started "automatically" got a blackshirt for the season when they were handed out. I always believed that you earned it, and had to keep proving that you deserved to keep it. Kudos to Bo and Carl for taking it away if he wasn't deserving. These guys need that motivation, otherwise we have guys running around thinking their crap don't stink like we had under BC, when in reality they didn't deserve toilet paper to wipe their noses so they could smell their own stink.
