I scrolled through some of the Husker season on espn, didn't see any real breakout rushing games for Martinez, but I didn't box score every single game either. Was there one or two games where he really broke out a bunch of yards to pad that ~1000 yard stat?

Abdullah.. he's only 5-9 185 pounds. Fast he is, but undersized for the kind of pounding and tackle breaking it is going to take against a solid SEC defense. He's fast, but all of UGA's linebackers are 4.4 class beasts.

Secondly, his average against AP25 this year is only 4.2 ypc (respectable) for a whopping total of 129 yards.

Wisky, Iowa, and Penn State all held him to under 3.7 ypc this year.

Your offensive line is very good, with an All American ... a player (what's his name again?) like that on the line makes everyone better, based on what I have seen from various AA's that have come and gone from UGA's OL and DL over the years. Look at what Alabama did to UGA with a fundamentally sound, disciplined offensive line. They had 350 yards rushing, or some such. If the Huskers can get just 200, you'll be in this game, offensively. However, your guys really are pretty undersized against UGA's DL, who has been playing against SEC big-boy OL's all season. Maybe use some cut blocking and speed? GA Tech and GA Southern tried it this year, it didn't work because of UGA's linebacker speed and aggression, but maybe it will work for you.

It looks like the only games you didn't score at least 28 points were 2 games, both of which you still won.

Make no mistake. Martinez is a threat on the ground. He can be pretty effective on draws or zone reads executed correctly, and yeah, he has a number of scrambles in there. When he gets a crease, he's gone. We also have great perimeter and downfield blocking, especially from our WRs. 6'1-185 Kenny Bell and 6'1-185 Jamal Turner supplied two of the key blocks escorting Taylor on his way to the endzone against Wisconsin.

Abdullah may be undersized, but he's a beast. I don't know if I would say his specialty is speed. He's just a solid runner, as is Rex, and Braylon Heard. All of them can make the big plays happen.

However, our offensive line is not very good. Especially on the outside. We run a lot of toss sweeps and we have quite capable pulling guards, but it's really our skill position talent and innovative offense (when it has the chance to be, and isn't down by 30 early as it was in the CCG) that get the credit for maximizing what we've got.

My concern would be the OL not holding up well enough against Georgia to establish an effective ground game early, and gets manhandled in pass pro. As long as we are able to dictate the flow of the game by controlling the scoreboard or keeping it close, I like our offense's chances. If you have an overly aggressive defense, perhaps our misdirection plays will be very productive -- but it might hurt our ability to run our bread-and-butter toss sweeps.

Line play will absolutely dictate the outcome of this game. We have alot of speed all around our offense. Defense...not so much.

I think NU will try to exploit your edges and set up the middle for some runs and zone read passes up the seam. Least that's what I would try, but what do I know.

Our defense is solid vs the pass but the run game will be sliced and diced unless we bring gap pressure to stop the run and get in Murrays face to rush the pass.

That's what South Carolina did.... 35-7 Gamecocks. UGA's offensive line doesn't suck, but they aren't stellar either. If I was a Husker Coach, that's what I'd do. Problem is, UGA isn't going to get pass happy unless you first shut down the run, put UGA in 3rd and long. Then bring the house on Murray.

Stopping Gurley and Marshall and getting UGA in 3rd and long, that's the hard part. That's when there's not much coaching you can do, just have to rely on your players' ability, focus, and fundamentals. In other words, how well have they been coached all year, not necessarily how you coach them for this game.

There are Husker fans that actually think Taylor doesn't know how to successfully scramble for positive yardage. This isn't true, of course, but it shows that the majority of his yards come by design. Michigan State was his best game of the season rushing the ball, he also had really successful days against Wisconsin the first time and against Penn State. We've given him more of a running load the later the season has gotten.

As far as Abdullah, he's the definition of a multi-purpose back. He is fast, but he is also tough. None of us knew he was capable of this kind of consistency as the main guy most of the season, but he's held up well with Burkhead out. Ameer's best football is still ahead of him as he's only a sophomore, but he's proven himself in big ways against some physical B1G defenses.

Sounds like we need to play disciplined D on 1st & 2nd down, and then bring in Eric Martin as a situational 3rd-and-long rusher. We love the 'Caveman', and he can really wreck it, but I think we will need other guys on the DL for run stopping situations.

Martinez numbers aren't as good as they could be, because he was very protective in his runs this year.. Running out of bounds and things like that to avoid the big hit.. If you let him into the open field look out! AA is one tough runner with speed, but you must not forget Rex is their too.. He showed that his knee is in pretty good shape and with the month before the Bowl game should be that much better..

Actually 62% is okay. You want 65% but 62% is okay. Tmart is not the best scrambler, but he's not the worst. He doesn't have a natural feel for the pocket, but if he sees a lane/space he can hurt you. Most of his yards are from zone read. One he hits a lane he will accelerate through it and before you know he's deep in the secondary. He can get caught, but you better have a good generous angle on him.

You have more to worry about than Ameer, Nebraska has a plethora of good backs. Burkhead will be the main guy with Ameer rotating in. Heard & Cross will be in on some packages. Heard is a speed guy with very good instincts. Cross is power. He will deliver a blow as much as take one.

Nebraska's oline is most effective in space. They can run downhill but it will be off tackle most of the time. Your team has some very good DL guys. It should be interesting. I think Nebraska might try and run right at them. That's the best way to negate speed.

I think Nebraska will get their points. It's the defense that's the question...

Martinez has become a much "tougher" runner this year than last. He has scrambled some, but most, IMO have been from either designed QB runs or read type options.

We have no real back up QB. If we did, the staff would turn him loose to run and rain fire upon opposing D's. As it is, the staff, again IMO, really limits him in the run capacity. If he goes down in the bowl game, I would expect Rex to move under center and finish the game in the "Rexcat". Yes we are that thin at QB.

Murray need not worry about our rush. Caveman is our best, but we seldom blitz. Maybe this game we do. Statistically not as much as I would like. Then again, we have almost a full month to figure something out.

Your DL is good, BUT the B1G has some monster DL's as well (perhaps not as "talented") still big. This game will be won in the trenches. Advantage UGA.

Our "burner" back Braylon Heard is a good one. Unfortunately under utilized. Maybe this game the staff turns him loose. Abdullah is a solid blue collar work horse. "Smaller" , but plays very big. NOt afraid to run between the tackles. Strong as well. Rex is a different animal. Hard to get a solid shot on him. Runs angry and downhill. IMO, because of his character, work ethic and abilities, one of the best in the nation at what he does. This year hurt us with his injury. Has a knack of getting positive yrds after contact. Has the ability to always seem to "fall forward". Cross, 225+ lbs is a bruiser. True Fresh with tons of potential. Again under used. Where y'all (and a lot of SEC teams) use true Fresh we seldom do.

Our WR's and TE's are solid across the board. All capable of catching in traffic and stretching the field. Reed (our TE) is a WR in a TE body. Had hopes of us using him like Hernandez at New England, but that never happened. One thing I will say is that our WR's are probably the best in the nation. Hands down. AT BLOCKING. They will flat lay the wood and actually enjoy it.

Our DL is patchwork and pretty poor against the run. Wisky in the CCG was an aberration with our secondary play as it relates to poor pursuit and tackling. Really thought we had the one worked out. I imagine that we will sell out against the run and leave our CB's to be tested by Murray. Again, I like our DB's and think that teams will find it hard to beat us through the air. If I were your OC, I would simply run it down our throat. Seems to be our weak point and keeps our O off the field.

ref Martinez in his prime (VERY close now), google ESPN's sport science to see that he is truly faster than a speeding arrow. Truly the fastest first step I have ever seen. 2-3 steps and he is full speed. Pretty amazing.

If we don't turn the ball over early and dig ourselves into a hole, we should be able to run the ball just fine on Georgia.

That's a big if. If there's something we're consistent at, it's turning the ball over and falling behind.

Watch for that sideline pass, first play of the game. Easy pick-6 if you're ready for it.

The strength of Abdullah's 5'9" 185 lb frame is just as good as that of a 6'1" 220 lb. back. Football is about center of gravity. Low man wins. It's not an issue.

Abdullah is very good at moving laterally in the tackle box and finding lanes. The problem defenses have with him is not strength, but quickness, intelligence, and speed. He sees the field well, and is effective as the alternative to Burkhead. Martinez can be dangerous if he can stay focused all game. If he gets too rattled, the game could get away from him.
