Perhaps no one in the Husker locker room has a more intriguing situation than Maurice. The guys he came in with and learned with as a young player are gone. He is suddenly the old man among Nebraska’s defensive tackles despite not playing an overwhelming amount himself.
He’s on his third defensive line coach in four years: Rick Kaczenski first, Hank Hughes in the middle, now John Parrella.
He’s not complaining at all. “Got to take a little bit from each guy,” Maurice said.
And despite the fact he has started just one game in his Husker career, the expectations for his final season at Nebraska seem to be held fairly high by many media and fans.
Perhaps it’s because when he did get the chance to play an entire game, last year against Illinois, he was a force, piling up eight tackles. He had four tackles, including a tackle for loss, against Michigan State. He forced a fumble with a dominating play against Iowa.
