With some more veteran coaches, I'd expect Nebraska to close the gap easily. Nebraska wasn't being cheap, after all, they were just not overpaying for the guys the head coach chose (many may disagree on Beck). Most head coaches don't take these jobs primarily for the money — they get paid well, yet put in some hellish hours — but the idea of helping take care of nine more coaches' families (many of whom include small kids) appeals to them. And assistant coaches are less likely to burn you on buyouts, too. A lot of them want head coaching jobs, for one thing. They're not going to loaf. And if you have to fire one, they're much less likely to take a season to decompress. They're not sitting on a head coach's nest egg, after all. So if you're into the “Moneyball” approach, which Eichorst claims to be, it's better to spread out the available cash over more folks who can help the coach Riley deliver his vision.
We finished the regular season ranked around 25th. Our staff was 31st in pay. Did we overpay? We had a staff full of misfit toys. We overpaid as is
I think $98,000 per assistant is quite the difference. The numbers aren't that different. Ohio State, which ranks 8th to Nebraska's 31st, outpaid Nebraska by only $883k, or an average of $98,000 per assistant.
yeah, it seems the point is that we need to find coaches worth that much and then pay them that much. You guys do realize that's not the theory behind this...right?
The theory is that if you pay more, you get better coaches. Nobody is saying if you pay the same coaches more, they all of a sudden become better.
Yes, Nebraska greatly overpaid for it's coaches, and got a poor return on their investment. We finished the regular season ranked around 25th. Our staff was 31st in pay. Did we overpay? We had a staff full of misfit toys. We overpaid as is

Yes, but I also think Bo was not being restricted about how much he could pay and therefore had to settle. He had on staff who he wanted, and said he had everything he wanted at great length. You guys do realize that's not the theory behind this...right?

yeah, well, we still got 5 assistants to go, including technically both coordinators. So lets just calm down a sec until it's all taken care of. We dont know. Maybe Riley does go out get a couple of hot shot coordinator for a mil+ a piece. It doesn't help to throw money at average coaches, but if you want to compete for the quality guys then,"SHOW THEM THE MONEY".. The scoop posted the USA Today posted assistant coaches salaries...For a school that says resources aren't a problem they don't seem to be backing that up like other schools..
