Just wondering.. I believe Thenarse had a good chance at a medical redshirt for 2009 or maybe he got it already?

Any others?

Ricky will get his, pretty sure he was the only one eligible. (Burkes may have been but he is done with football.)

What about Matt Holt? I dunno if offseason injuries are included.
I would think Matt would use his regular 'redshirt' availability since he did not use it in 2008. Going into 2010 he should be considered a Redshirt Sophomore vs. Junior.

LaTravis played in games this year. No redshirt for him. He will be a senior next season.

you can play in a certain percentage of games before your redshirt is technically "burned" so could there be a chance LaTravis redshirted.

Maybe I need to be more clear...LaTravis is not eligible for a straight redshirt. The percentage rule only applies in unfortunate circumstances, hence the "medical redshirt." If you were healthy and could play, what is the point of having the redshirt rule in the first place? Schools potentially could just play these top young talents in big situations while they are 'redshirting', and still get another year out of them.

Contrary To Popular Belief

From the NCAA in regards to Redshirting:

It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition.

So you're sure that nothing that is going on with Latravis would qualify as an "unfortunate circumstance"? In all honesty, what qualifies as an unfortunate circumstance? I'm really not sure of what qualifies, (even after reading the NCAA link) I guess I don't get things that clearly, mmmkay...?

I don't think the NCAA cares much about playing time earned, only PT lost due to medical issues.

Especially since LT played in the bowl game, there was obviously nothing that would be considered "unfortunate circumstances" in this case....

and as far as matt holt, you have to use your regular RS before you will be considered for a medical rs

So Matt Holt will be a junior next year, and Spano should be a Sophomore. Depending on when he was cleared to play. Because i thought he was suppose to start working out again early in the 2009 season. But no one ever really talked about it on here.

I mean, he injured himself before the spring game right? Then he underwent surgery ahortly afterward and was hopefully to be back by early fall. So am I missing something?

Actually nevermind. I forgot that Spano reinjured his ACL during the summer and was out for the season. So he should come back in 2010 as a Redshirt Freshman, again.

If Spano is a redshirt freshman again, that would be interesting. He'd have 6 years here.

That makes sense. Can't help but think of Niles though. I know it doesn't have to do with medical redshirts, but it's too bad that lost a season of eligibility for what, two kick-off returns?
