International Man of Mystery
Just saw a blurb in the OWH that Megan Pendergast, a Junior Libero from League City, Texas, is transferring "to be closer to home and family." I read that to say, we recruited phenom Lara Dykstra to play Libero the next four years, barring injury Dykstra will have the job, and Pendergast will ride the bench the rest of her career, with spot duty in blowouts.
I cannot fault her for this decision, but it's really sad to see her go. I got a chance to meet Megan this Spring and found her to be a very nice young lady. It's too bad that we have a logjam at Libero, and that there isn't room on the court for two such talented players.
Pendergast is one hell of an athlete. She got a chance to showcase her abilities as a hitter against Tianjin Bridgestone April 16th when Hannah Werth was gassed and needed some rest time on the bench. Cook put the 5'7" Pendergast into the lineup as an OH against the 6'+ Great Wall of China, and she was an instant spark for the offense. Pendergast can jump like you wouldn't believe, and hit at least one ball over the block for a kill. We do not win that match without Megan's clutch play.
Sometimes players get lost in the numbers game, and that seems to have happened to Megan. She'll be missed, definitely. Here's hoping she has great success wherever she goes.
